The amount of wars this music already covered is the most sad shit that we as human can see we fail as humanity. Serj's Art still brings me confort and rebellion at the same time.
@theoutcast3082 how can people back this phrase? I get that we dont want innocent Palestinians to die, Hamas is an evil, and Israel is exacting violence on the populace....but they are all humans. You suggest Israel be completely eradicated. Are you blind, do you not care?
@@brucestack1658 Israel is an intrinsically colonial political project born of ethnic cleansing and land theft. Promoting a free Palestine from sea to river means campaigning for the abolition of the colonial institutions that have kept the Palestinians in a position of subalternity for the last 75 years and that have authorised the genocidal sequence we have been witnessing for the last +2 months. Do you legitimately fail to understand that fighting oppressive institutions is not the same as slaughtering those who benefit from them, or are you just pretending so that you don't have to question the legitimity of your favourite ethnostate?

one day I hope Serj's music becomes irrelevant and is relegated to a history book but sadly today is not that day. Keep making music dude we still need it.
how? @@Mattalaska serj's music will always be phenomenal, but it's heartbreaking that its relevant today. after october 7th, the genocide of palestinians by israeli forces has become more publically prevalent and recognized. this song is about the occupation of palestine by israel
@@Mattalaska You seem to have misunderstood OP's message. This song is 11 years old, and still somehow relevant. Palestine is still occupied to this day and it's only getting worst. The day this song isn't about current events will be a day for the history books.

My paternal grandparents were Armenian Genocide orphans who were forced from their homes in 1915. They had to march from their homes in Aintab (modern-day Gaziantep, Turkey) to Damascus, Syria. From Damascus, Syria they marched to Irbid, Jordan. And from Irbid, Jordan they marched to Haifa, then British Palestine. They were placed in an orphanage in Haifa. In 1952 they were evicted from their home in Haifa. Israeli Defense Forces came to their door and told them to give them their keys and leave, claiming that they will be allowed to return once the conflict was over. They lost everything and started their lives over again in Beirut, Lebanon. In 1976 a year after the Lebanese Civil War began between Muslims and Christians they fled to Los Angeles, California. I was born and raised here and the stories of these three horrific events from my paternal history never leave my ears. May God rest in peace over 1,5 million innocent victims from the Armenian Genocide, and Justice for the Armenian Genocide (and other Crimes against Humanity) to prevail.
1976 Lebanese Civil War happened because the PLO was welcomed in - same mistake Syria, Jordan, and Egypt made - and the Palestinians attempted to coup Lebanon. Know your history. 1952 was the Suez Crisis when Gamal Abdel Nasser, a brutal dictator, couped Egypt, who still controlled the Gaza Strip Egypt annexed during the Arab-Israeli War of 1947. Jordan expelled all Palestinians to the West Bank after stripping them of their Jordanian citizenship, making them stateless in retaliation for the PLO doing exactly the same coup attempt of King Husseini of Jordan, that they’d then attempt for the final time in Lebanon. Are you blind to the belligerents here? Lebanon, btw - is a French colony that expelled Muslims to create a Christian ethnostate, given the West wanted to find a Christian foothold in the Middle East, so they could just let Israel fall due to their biases and distrust. Not surprised you were indoctrinated by grandparents raised in Lebanon, just the same. Enjoy Glendale.
I used to listen to this song when I was younger and I never truly understood it, but now that I've learned so many horrible things about the world this song brings tears to my eyes.

My question why are schools not teaching us about the Armenian genocide? cause I'm in 12th and thought out my entire schooling not once has it been brought up! Love to get some feed back on this
The goverment controlls the schools. The goverment doesn't want the people to realize how fucked up their not existing nation(yeah, It's a lie too). Not to mention the gang wars, the corruption, racism. America is a rich continental country, but it had lots of stupid leaders and politicians and the resources were used to useless things. Of course,it had and has good people as politicians too,but there are a lot lot more corrupt selfish douchbags. I hope that this will change.
There is a fuck ton of fucked up history and when there is a big geographic border separating countries then foreign history usually stocks to what is either closer, has the most influence, or what the ally is this especially applies to America in terms of the influence thing because the main information of foreign countries that come here are usually British (and no not just the revolutionary war), Egyptian well more of a crash course but that may very on schools, and Roman (this is just if my memory serves me right) because they have some of the more interesting history but this is just my theory I could be wrong
In all honesty, it is not taught because it isn't that important.. It's like learning about the split-up of Yugoslavia; it doesn't really need to be taught.
A very meaningful song, meant to describe an occupation 73 years and counting... An amazing message from an amazing human being who cares about humanity.... Thank you ...
My mother tell me: " The bird in the clip represents a kind of protection, when you are young, innocent and do not know where to go. It is important that we have someone concerned and fighting against it. But we need more people.". OMG, my mother loves Serj.
Of course we all know Of course we all care Of course we all see how this isn't fair We are not blind, yes, we do see It's time to end this misery Make love, not war hehe
so much meaning behind this...EVERYTHING about this song is art. the singing, HOOK is amazing, meaning is unmistaken. Serj Tankian is a legend. speaks truth, no matter what the cost.
Serj wrote a song about ending hate and diversity and making peace but at the comment section people still fighting and debating about whose right whose wrong... sad
There is still right and wrong in this world. The right cannot let the wrong win else darkness takes the earth by storm. We make war so that we may live in peace.
Because politics isn't simple. The reason there is a "right" and "left" is because people have different interpretations and conclusions with regards to the same exact issues.
Diversity is good. Debating is important and so are different opinions. There's always right _or_ wrong. I'm sure it was not Serj's message to tell us that we shouldn't discuss, have opinions!
Serj, don't even think to stop! Society needs your words even more, than ever! I hope, someday everyone will smash his pink glasses on the cast-iron ass of reality. Stay clear, true citizen's of Humanity. From mother Russia, with true love, Serj. Thanks for your voice.

*sigh* this is one of my favorite songs and im pretty happy that Serj is one of the few musicians that is outspoken on the issues that plague our planet.
Relevant if we go back in space all the way to the foundation of Israel. Relevant when the song was released. Relevant now in 2023. Relevant until the world stops existing.
what is wrong with music industries is that they give us meaningless musics when they are treasure like this not hidden but ignored and put behind the person without any good thinking
@@uint16_t lol still better than socialism. But the music industry just sucks in general. Not sure if it’s because of capitalism or because a good majority of people have a sheepish, horrid taste in music.
Thing I've always like about Serj is his music has meaning, messages of peace, love tolerance and other things our world seems to have forgotten or replaced. Serj tries to better the world through his music, that is something everyone should respect.
Love that song... found it this year and cant stop to hear it on repeat... You cant imagine how great it is to discover Serj's music , 15 years after SOAD stopped to make new music.
I completely fell in love with this song and video. I've been a little distant from SOAD related stuff the last ten years, but I'm glad to see Tankian's been doing what he likes the most.
That bridge is especially haunting. How it gives a optimistic view of what could happen, but then going back into the more pessimistic first verse, basically showing how it could never happen.
The people of Palestine and Israel are not monsters, many do not want the violence. Israeli children grow up afraid of rockets and stones, children of Palestine grow up afraid of shelling and drones. Those who do support the violence? Feel free to die in the fighting, but don't bring the civilians down with you.
+Operation Agatha Israel adds to the problem with the blockade but if Hamas didn't hide behind citizens of Gaza while shooting Israelis then Israel would be the only bad guys, but they have reasons for attacking Gaza, unfortunately.
+Just Another And thats the problem. Instead of being rational and care for each other, each group sees other as a threat. Violence is not much of a problem. Fear is. As long as one man would look at another and see not the same kind of creature he is, but a monster - there will be war. What I imply is that civilians is guilty in the first place, though we shouldn't blame them for it.
тоже с 14 лет начал слушать СОАД... до сих пор почти 20 лет прошло.. знаю куда тыкатся когда мне нужна моя музыка!!! Уважение огроменное моему сородичу, такими я горжусь!
Serj, to me you are both a poet and an incredibly logical individual. You have knowledge and know what is right, and you express it through your music. In a day and age where such hedonistic messages are displayed with pride through truly terrible music, you do everything you can to bring peoples' awareness to the real issues of our world and away from their own petty struggles through truly beautiful music. If for every 10 artists we had one with your vision, the world would improve. Bravo.
YES, thank you. Finding SoaD and Tankian was a breath of fresh air from the same old horrible songs that are so popular nowadays that are all either about love or some other trope that has been overused for centuries.
you could have just committed silence as most of the freaking humanity do , but no , you decided to speak and say the truth , and for that i admire you even more , salutes for you mr.serj
We are blinded by greed. Over-consuming the selfish needs. The noise of society is making me bleed. We all have history, but why do we forget so fast? Self centered misery, we should learn from our past. It's in our own strength, and our duty as a human to change lives. It's in our own faith, that we will found salvation that strives. We should stop watching, and start doing
