Sermon preached by Pastor Thomas Farrow Jr. from Mark 8:22-26 entitled "Seeing Clearly." After receiving an initial touch, the man declares, "I can see people, but they look like trees, walking." Jesus, refusing to leave the man as he is. After a second touch the man is able to see everything clearly. Pastor puts forward that perhaps Jesus wanted him to see clearly so that he could be socially conscious. Had Jesus left the man as he was (partially blind & unable to see differences), unable make distinctions, perhaps it would have made it acceptable for him to ignore oppression, racial biases, and other forms inequality. After all, if you can’t see the ills that affect your community, how then can you help?
