Seroquel belongs in the atypical antipsychotic family of drugs primarily aimed at treating schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Other related compounds include Abilify, Zyprexa, Risperdal and Vraylar. Even though its patent expired long ago, Seroquel and its generic quetiapine remain popular with nearly 9 million prescriptions each year.
A long list of significant adverse reactions appears directly related to Seroquel. Among the most common are increases, sometimes dramatic, in body weight, blood sugar, bad cholesterol, triglycerides and in pre-pubertal boys breast tissue enlargement. Seroquel may lead to involuntary and unwanted muscle movements of the face and extremities that may be permanent remaining long after discontinuation of the drug. Tiredness, seizures, hypothyroidism and heartbeat irregularities may also occur.
Amazingly this potent medicine is regularly misused with more people receiving prescriptions by general practitioners and internists than psychiatrists. Increasingly low dose Seroquel is prescribed for insomnia. This unwise, inappropriate, dangerous and unsupported use of Seroquel should be avoided.

I was horrified to see what this drug did to my father 5 years ago and my father in law this past week! For the sake of needing sleep while in the hospital. My father in law went in for back pain and in 2 days was told he was dying. Called the family in and we thought it would be days and he would be gone. He was hallucinating, violent, swearing, and totally confused. Got him off this medication and he is fine!!! Thank you Jesus! 🙏

I wish I could sue as a result of my pain from taking quetiapine. for the first 6 months it had a honeymoon effect, but that slowly faded to grey. fucking doctors would rather prescribe this over Nonbenzos for SLEEP claiming its non addictive but it's TOTALLY physically addictive, withdrawal worse than Alcohol for me. Another option: Dry mouth may be from tongue thrusting. If you experience snoring, sleep apnea, respiratory disorders or abdominal migraines, it is heavily correlated with mouth breathing or an underdeveloped jaw. Expanding pallette (dna or alf appliance) might help. If it is a mild to moderate case, take a thin piece of sports tape before sleep and tape from just beneath the nose to below the lower lip, leaving side of lips free of the tape. This brings jaw forward and in turn presses tongue to the roof of the mouth, expands airways and keeps the mouth moist (lowers dental cavities). The commercial head strap uses compression which is detrimental for overall health. Many epigenetic doctors believe underdeveloped jaws leads to neurological disorders by putting stress on the nerves in the cervical and thoracic spine, as the chronic issue can causes disregulation of neurotransmitters and nutrients. Ultimately, neurology recommend the palette expander, as it relieves pressure from inflamation in the brain, increasing the threshold for inflammation and decreasing risk for disease.

I had no idea that it was destroying my brain but I knew I had to get off it. So he told me to taper from 100mg down to 0 over 2 weeks. I went insane during withdrawals. Be very careful. If for some reason you go to the hospital I would suggest you not let them give you this drug via IV. I alerted my care team and they still have it to me this way. 2 young gals came in with syringes. I asked what they were as one proceeds to administer the seroquel. I immediately started having hallucinations. Ungodly scary things. So the second nurse is pondering using the morphine. I'm like yes! Please do. Totally sane as anyone I found myself scared to death. Screaming. Once you get on seroquel as I have what are you going to do when your dose no longer works and a higher dose causes such terror? I'm totally stuck. I fall at night. Wandering around. It causes a voracious appetite so I am also wandering the kitchen late at night grazing for food. At the beginning I gained over 100 lbs and I'm a naturally skinny person. Cataracts, dry itchy skin that tears easily. My vision is horrible and I'm looking at having yet another cataract surgery. My muscle tissue has turned to flab. And 1 thing I will never understand is why give such a medication to some one with sleep narcolepsy? And the final fun fact I can't sleep at all without this drug now. Please please be very careful with this medicine. I've fallen asleep with food in my hair and all over. I had a pancreas attack. Nothing replaces this drug. God bless everyone taking this crap. Absolutely love this Dr. I wish he could help me.

Quetiapine (Seroquel) could be the best choice for people who suffer from Insomnia as a disease in dosages between 25mg to 100 mg. It works like a charm. Another point which is of paramount importance is that you can't abuse it, when it kicks in you just need to go to sleep. It's also so effective regarding putting an end to your intrusive thoughts in a lot more stronger way than the way that Z drugs or Benzodiazepines do. It makes the onset of sleeping way more faster than other medications and also it makes you have a deep sleep. Usually, you don't develop tolerance to it as fast as Benzos or Zolpidem (Ambien) and it doesn't give you even one iota of euphoria, that's why people can't abuse it. It's the best one.

AstraZenica have already had to payout 520 million for fraudulently marketing quetiapine with this kind of nonsense. Studies also show quetiapine is heavily abused, quote: "During the study period, 2,118 cases of quetiapine abuse and 1,379 cases of other second-generation antipsychotic abuse were identified. Quetiapine abuse was more common than the abuse of other second-generation antipsychotics, compromising 60.6% of all abuse cases during the study period." There's also another lawsuit regarding quetiapine causing diabetes which astrazenica was aware of but never included in any safety information. It's not the best of anything, it's an illegally marketed drug with safety issues that the manufacturer withheld, it is addictive and habit forming and people like you need to get educated before espousing medical misinformation.

My anxiety is very bad so I'm willing to give this a try to take as needed - but I definitely don't want to take this long-term. I only think for those where literally nothing else works (e.g. severe schizophrenia) should consider staying on anti-psychotic for years on end. I think these drugs have their place (after all my anxiety is making my life unliveable and practically pointless because there's no relief, no joy, just stress and casual suicidal ideation). So I'm willing to try for a while but I want another long-term solution (e.g. regular cognitive behavioural therapy when I can afford it - it sucks how a lack of money means you can't get human to human help).

I took 50mg of Quetiapine for the first time last night. I could feel the effects of it after about 10-15 minutes? It made me tired, but put me in a weird tired mode, like I couldn't sleep on it kind of tired. There is kind of window of tiredness you have, to try and fall asleep on Quetiapine, I believe and if you miss it, it will leave you in a bizzare can't fall asleep tired state, or like in a strange state of exhuasted feeling but still to conscious and wanting to sleep state, but can not. I did finally fall asleep, but not for long, and shallow. I woke up with drymouth and a stuffy nose from it and a slight sinus headache. Don't feel rested the morning after so not sure what to think of Quetiapine yet? Was taking 15mg tablets of Mirtazapine, and that stuff didn't work as fast, but needed to take it at least a few hours before the time I wanted to sleep and have drank zero caffeine before 5pm taking mirtazapine, caffeine really counter acts low doses of Mirtazapine, but do believe it worked ok, but had a more gradual, and not as strong/strange effect as the Quetiapine, and least I did fall asleep on it in a more normal way, but would sleep only in 4 or 5 hour spurts on Mirtazapine but didn't have the residual tired effects from the Mirtazapine like the Quetiapine, might have made a mistake switching from low dose mirtazapine to a little higher dosage of Quetiapine. The psychologist that prescribed me the Quetiapine, thinks I may have manic depression, and is just seeing how I react to Quetiapine on lower doses. Will give an update to anyone reading this to tell how it effected me if anyone is interested.

I'm coming off 20 years of drug addiction. I wasn't addicted every year but probably 15 of those years. I have been off drugs for 14 months but I have not slept well or felt peace really, since I was a kid. My dad and brother got me to go to the mental ward last week. They prescribed me 100 mg of seroquel (XR I am guessing) once at bedtime. What are your thoughts on this?

Well, you can say it should not be used for insomnia; however, as long as physicians believe they may be at risk prescribing minor tranquillizers, benzodiazepines class of controlled substances, they will use whatever works for insomnia. The proof it works is the common use of this drug for sleep. If you really wish to remedy this, the medical community needs to explain to the gatekeepers they are fooling themselves with 'controlled substances' making the public more vulnerable to excessive drugging by forcing people into compromising a less controlled, but more dangerous drug.

What this drug do is a chemichal lobotomy putting people to sleep or in a sleepy state, and it works by cognitive functions destruction, but it works and they don´t care about the side effects, so...in fact, in the end they do not care about the health of their patients...it is about prescribe, prescribe, without even rise their butts from the chair...it should be prohibited to prescribe this and other anti psichotic drugs to treat imsomnia.

@Charlotte Martin the proof oxy worked was the common use of that drug for pain. Really tells you nothing except how floored the entire industry and regulatory agencies are
