Thanks for explaining this great feature which simplifies the connexion to databases : is it also availaible for fexible server postgress and mysql ? If we do not want to use connection, is it possible to use egress public access to reach databases if firewall are well configured or is their egress limitation for ACA ?
Yes, service connector is also available for Azure Database for PostgreSQL and MySQL Flexible Servers. ACA supports UDR so you can egress it through firewall to connect to database. techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/azure-paas-blog/securing-network-egress-in-azure-container-apps/ba-p/3915548
Thanks for this good explanation. But I'm curious what problems this solves, that part is unclear to me. Currently I been using environment variables in the container application to pass credentials to SQL database and that works OK for me as a developer. However, my users have an issue in connecting to data stored in the database. I'm trying to find a solution to avoid having users of my flask application have to be IP whitelisted, and am not sure if this tutorial will help that problem.
Service connector configures the network settings and connection information by itself and eliminates the need to manually configure environment variables. So in case you changes your SQL credentials then you don't need to update those in different places. If your users are connecting to DB using Flask app then service connectors will help as it ensures that only authorized traffic can access the database without requiring IP whitelisting. But if you are looking for direct connection between users and DB then in that case private endpoint will be secure and recommended option.
