Showing you how to wire your Service Disconnect and why there is only two terminals inside the disconnect box.
I will walk you through how to install your service disconnect box and the wiring that you will commonly find with A/C units. You will usually need a 4 or 8 gauge wire. A 4/2 wire or 8/2 wire. You can find these at the store and I'll put links for the wiring and other items I'm using in this video. But the 4/2 or 8/2 is referring to the "2" wires inside, commonly black and white. When you see a 4/3 or 8/3 you'll have a black, white and Red and you may not need that extra wire, and you could be saving some money. If your wiring in other 240v plugs you may need the 3rd wire for sure. But not usually on these service disconnect boxes.

Your ac guy will have to rewire that disconnect since you did it wrong. Line side (power) are the 2 inside lugs and load side (the ac) are the outside lugs. Also ac units are 240v circuits that only require a ground. Two hots (120v each) and the ground.

This has two hot wires. The white wire is hot. Designated visually with black marks. I’m not sure if you missed the whole video but I cover all of this and explain this. In length. As far as which terminals I hook up the hot to inside the box, I guess if the AC tech has a preference on which side he wants the wires coming into and going out to the condenser then he could have it that way. But the left two and right two are separate. So wouldn’t technically matter which of the left two and which of the right two you hook a hot wire up to…. When you hook in the condenser wires it will get juice from the lug next to it either way. The two hots coming from the breaker box are separate rated in the service disconnect.

@@FortKnoxCo Theres no preference when it comes to hooking up the disconnect correctly. The 2 inside lugs are where the line wires go, the wires from the breaker to power the disconnect. The outside lugs send power to the ac so the wires from the ac go to them. So it does matter where the wires go. You should go look at the installation instructions for the disconnect you are using and you will see how you are wrong. Also I know this has 2 hot wires, I said that in my comment. If you don't know how to do electrical work then you shouldn't post videos about it and say its correct when its not.

@@Mutate167 I agree. If you don’t know what you’re doing or don’t feel comfortable messing with electrical, I’d definitely recommend getting someone who does. As far as which terminal you hook the power coming in and power going out, I understand what you’re saying, and there may be a “designated” or “correct way” to place the wires…. But functionally speaking… what I’m saying is, and I believe you understand this, if you hook a line in on the right terminal and you hook the line out on the lug CONNECTED next to it…. You are going to get the power flowing through it as intended. Either way you set those wires on the connected two lugs will accomplish essentially “splicing” those wires to allow power to flow through. Those tabs that connect the two right lugs and the two left lugs don’t care which wires you have on them…. When you put the breaker in and those tabs connect, it’s letting power flow. Don’t want to get in a debate necessarily over it. I think you get it. But at this point it’s arguing semantics. …. But hey, the RU-vid algorithm loves interaction… so I appreciate the comment either way.
