I hope I'm getting this right by using the following analogy: - SOA is an office building, - the Services are different offices or departments _(making queries, or responding to queries),_ - ESB is the telephone operator _(takes calls and patches you through),_ and - the SDR is a phone book _(where all the Services have been listed)._

Could anyone give the specific example of the same web application based on both service-oriented architecture and microservices one in IT scope? I don't really understand what they differ with substantially.

Is it compulsory for SOA to have more than one systems? or it is ok if the same application acts both as service provider and service consumer?

Microservices and SOA seems to be almost the same, aside from the ESB & SDR components. But it is done through an API gateway in microservices architecture. What is the main difference between the two? And what will be the main consideration in choosing one over the other? Thanks!

I think, the main difference is granularity. I didn't meet a requirement in SOA specification to make SOA services well grained. But opposite - the SOA service should provide your complete and finished service.

Does SOA architecture work only on HTTP protocol? Or does it hold for (S)FTP and other protocols?

Hi ! Why articles say that Microservices are independent Components deployable s but not SOA services ? Why in SOA cant deploy a service without affecting others ? Dont understand! Thanks in advance !

Because SOA is usually a monolithic distributed system

please give a few examples of SOA and not SOA. Nobody is making comparisons when they explain SOA. It is only with the comparisons, that we can learn new things!
