How to service your own VCR (Video recorder) by cleaning the video heads. If you have old video tapes that you can't play anymore and would like them transferred to DVD or digital visit cineconversion....
Does your old VCR (video cassette recorder) still work? Can you play your own tapes OK, or do you have playback problems. Many such video tape play back problems can be solved by cleaning the video heads. Over time dirt, dust and tape oxide can build up on the video heads preventing playback. This video can help you fix your own VCR so you can play your old VHS tapes again.
You may find that if your old VCR has been in storage for a while there maybe playback problems due to the video tape path and video heads being dirty. Fixing a VCR is easy if you follow this video instruction.

Great video! I have just watched half a dozen or more of these instructionals and seen "techniques" that make me shudder. Nothing that could shed lint should be used, in my humble opinion. So I'm ordering some chamois sticks right now. Thanks for posting!

Never ever move the chamois up or down while cleaning the drum! Doing this will ruin your head drum! Also a piece of standard writing paper is easier for most people to obtain and use. Other than that....good video 👍

Ben, Would you just hold it still against the drum them and just restate the drum?

@@danhughesartist Yes. Hold the chamois/ writing paper up against the head drum and rotate the head drum manually for 5-6 rotations - not moving the chamois/ writing paper up or down.

I have always used the Chamios Sticks for cleaning the heads of the VCR's, and there Is a Dog leg one, that Is great for getting at Compact Cassette heads as well. I too have watched loads of these so called Professional head cleaning video's with complete horror, as the Cotton Bud (Q-Tip) runs over the heads. That's 4 Heads Two Video and Two Hi-Fi Stereo left and right channel's as a 4 head player would be 8 heads. Get It.

already clean the head few times,but when put tape for play it will play few seconds and then no more picture only showing- problem head status-,what to do?

What about that black cylinder at the end? Do we wipe that too? I noticed some white specs on the silver cylinder under the rotating piece. Should we wipe that?

That black cylinder is called the pinch roller, and yes you should clean that too. Sometimes these rubber parts tend to dry up or deteriorate as they age. When that happens, Rubber Renue should help restoring the condition of the roller. Ideally you should clean the entire tape path including the lower drum (the bottom half of the head drum that's stationary).

Yes, you should also clean it. You do not want it to become shiny or it will start to eat your tapes, it should still feel rubbery and soft, not hard and shiny.

Don't use alcohol/head cleaner on the rubber pinch roller as this will dry it out. Use a rubber cleaner and conditioner like Teac Rubber Cleaner RC-1.
