Since the beginning of this project in 2013, with each program and with the best musicians in the field, I’ve wanted to explore different subjects of the Humanist Period. A time in history where people were trying to re-think society inspired by the great thinkers and artists of the past.
Servir Antico, as a musical group brings these subjects through music and texts to the stage, to delight our audience with stunning, often forgotten music,/ but also to use the past to inspire our present and our future.
Humanism puts humankind at its center.
In our current project, we want to put Womankind at the center. And we want YOU to be part of it.
We want to tell you about a revolutionary woman from the Renaissance, Christine de Pizan, who questioned the place, role, and treatment that society had given to women for centuries. Whereas many men harshly criticized her, we also want to tell you about a Man who championed her cause.
This is the poet Martin Le Franc, who defended Christine, and With his work Le Champion des Dames, he brought awareness to the importance of women as active and multifaceted citizens in history.
Now, we want to invite all of you, and especially men, to tell us about a woman that you admire and who inspires you. A woman important in your life, a woman important to our history.
Your contributions, in any language, will be shared in a virtual book on Servir Antico’s website, and a selection of these texts will be musicalized and presented as part of our future concerts.
