The SureServo2 Drive has Safe Torque Off (STO) built-in so you don't need a lot of external components to implement it and shut the motor down quickly in an emergency. In this video we'll show you step by step how to setup a proper ESTOP circuit using the drives built-in STO function. We'll also spend a little time explain how a safety relay works to help you understand why they are so important.

Wow, what a nice Video. could you tell me one more thing? you say if you cut the power directly to the drive, remaining current will make unpredictable motor behavior. what kind of behavior? can you make some example?

The behavior is erratic so there isn't a predictive answer. One example would be the drive continuing to output torque for a time after the line side power is lost as the DC bus inside the drive stores residual energy. Any number of other outcomes are possible and completely unpredictable. If a safety analysis requires fast removal of torque from the motor, AutomationDirect strongly recommends using STO to stop the system before removing line side power.
