Session 1: ‘The Election That Never Was’ | 2024 Whitlam Institute Symposium 

On 6 August 2024, exactly fifty years to the day since the Joint Sitting of 1974, the Whitlam Institute hosted a Symposium titled “Historic, Unprecedented, Sobering”: The Double Dissolution and Joint Sitting of 1974.
In Session 1, we launch the Whitlam legacy paper ‘The Election That Never Was’ The 1974 Double Dissolution, Gough Whitlam’s Second Election Victory’. In this paper, Distinguished Whitlam Fellow Emeritus Professor Jenny Hocking AM FASSA and Dr Allison Cadzow delve into the events surrounding the momentous double dissolution of 1974.
