It's fairly common for me to see people hiking around with large MOLLE packs without anything attached, which defeats the purpose of having the webbing there in the first place and only serves to add weight. I set up my pack for "work" with firearms, and turned it into a portable workspace so that items are easily accessible whether on the move or nested up.

Use coupon code "inner5" for 5% off!
As an added note: Having items accessible from one side of the pack is great for when you're in your tent as well, since you won't have to wrestle with a pack to get at your items.

Professionally presented with several layout concepts coming into play. My loadout is vastly different, but the philosophy is the same. There are several key take-aways in this video. It’s easy to nit-pick this or that in your load-out, but the concepts are what is important to remember. Well done, and thank you.

If out in the cold, a small suggestion would be chap stick. A very small thing but it can save a ton of discomfort.

Angel Medina yeah good call. I saw MCQ carrying rendered fat.. he used it as chapstick, cooking fat, shotgun and knife rustproofing etc. Thought id share the tip!
@3nertia

I'd carry fixin' wax for that if possible (beeswax, a bit of rendered fat, and any medicinal herbs you'd like). Good for oiling metals, your lips, you can use it in cooking safely too
@keynotebushcraft

@ keeps you from licking your lips, so actually not too bad of an idea
@circedge
@circedge 5 лет назад
Yeah, about that... A lot of people have been using a chap stick since kids, or something similar. Except you don't actually need it, it's just marketing like many other items. Your body gets used to the added oil and produces less natural protection and that's why you're getting dry lips or cracked lips without it. You stop using it and eventually your lips will get back to normal. I get dry lips compared to without any, but they haven't cracked in decades.

I found this helpful. I've been playing around with the idea of having a basic "bug out bag" in the house, but was hung up on the idea of at least having the capability of rifle/shotgun carry as well, not to mention how to STOCK the whole thing in practical fashion. This gets me started, along with the feedback in the rest of the comments. Thanks.

I find first aid kist problematic as they aren't geared to proctect fully for a treker. I solve this by buying a waterproof case from a hardwear store. From experience, I wrap mine in a $5 misrofiber towel. Regardless od whether you use a hard waterproof case or not, its handy to lay out to empty your first aid supplies on so it is free from debris. In your case maybe a plastic or rubber backed sheet as you are in snow fall areas

The way I usually set my pack up is to have Gear in molle pouches, but keep them in the pack. That way my pack is not half-empty and has a low drag profile which I prefer. If I need some extra room, I just strap stuff to the outside. Love your dominant side layout. I use a similar principle but in a differant way.

Great video and love the set up. I do have a suggestion however. I would add a Israeli bandage to you med kit. It saved my butt when I was backpacking a few years ago. I was cutting some fire wood to make a cook fire and the ax slipped and hit my shin. I pulled out the bandage and applied it to the wound then preceded to hike the 3 miles to my vehicle. It took 7 stitches to patch me up. The doctor told me it could have been a lot worse but that bandage stopped the bleeding fast and helped mitigate any further injury. Again awesome video keep it up.

It’s an odd thing to carry handcuffs in a forest. There was a thought process that went into setting up his kit, he has prepared himself for lack of a better word “eventuality” that may or may not exist/occur. At any rate it says something. You can tell a lot about the man by what he carries. What are you packing for?

lee larsen Uhm... he is a U.S National Park Ranger? He needs these items to perform his job. don't judge a man by his "bag" without some context and history of thier person.

@Mystninja

Albert Johnson lol. Well there part of the uniform. The not going in with stuff in the cargo pockets. So so you can put things you find in them. I'm always getting told off for putting my gloves in my cargos. It that. It there full. You can't put things in them that you come across. It makes sense to me. People will still think what they think. And there aloud too.

If you really want to, you could just get some small molle dry bags to put on if you find anything. The molle is for everchanging missions. The main pack is to utalized completely
@Tremulousnut
@Tremulousnut 6 лет назад
Mystninja, part of the reason why they don't like you putting things in your cargo pockets, is that bulging pockets looks ugly and un-uniform on a parade square. Out in the field everyone put essentials like maps and medical kits in.

Andy great to see you out in the woods again. Excellent vid. One thing that struck me was the simplicity of your med kit. I actually exclaimed "what no tourniquet" no Israel bandage or splint either... 😱🤔👍! I see so many guy loading up on these items and from ,my now very dated, First Responder training I understand "If not an expert medic you shouldn't be applying a tourniquet, ect.." That may be wrong now but your sparse kit and statement "this is everything I need" just brought to mind how practical is it to carry a tourniquet in you back pocket ...

I have a TQ on my armor and on my duty belt, but you could pretty quickly make a TQ out of webbing from the pack and a makeshift windlass (if im injured tot he point of needing a TQ, I'm not walking out with my pack anyways). I'm currently an EMT, and have not ever had to use a TQ outside of training (luckily, perhaps).

I grabbed the utility pouch on the hip belt from a big ole bin. Not sure which model it is, but the rifle carrier is still on eberlestocks website. As for the rifle, I think I have a couple videos of it on my channel. One got taken down because of links to the equipment on it.

I have the same 2 Thrunite lights, thanks to your videos. Very happy with them. I'm curious what you use this rifle set up for. The obvious answer is hunting but it seems excessive for that, what with the extra magazines and fancy rifle. I don't hunt, though.
