Circa 1914 Colonial Revival mantle bracket clock, figured mahogany, Model No 2000, “Seth Thomas / Sonora chime”, eight bells, Westminster and Whittington chimes, single bell strike on each hour.

Silvered DIAL and chapter ring, two small upper dials- 1) “Strike / Silent” hour bell, 2) “Westminister / Whittington” tune change,
Heavy solid brass MOVEMENT - “Made in America” and “80X” on clock movement which trips the separate two-tune Sonora chimes movement “104E” for striking eight bells in their wooden expansion chamber.
16.25” tall, 12” wide, 9” deep.
Condition - completely original, overall excellent, solid, good original finish, runs currently, has not been recently serviced, from a local estate. 1Br
- Seth Thomas and Sonora Bells, (1912-). Seth Thomas acquired rights to the patent in 1912 from William Hoschke who patented the Sonora configuration in 4/18/1908 for Sonora Chime Co, NYC (1906-1929). The patent involved an expansive sound chamber.
- ST Model 2000 in Doric case, Cathedral top (introduced 1914). I understand this is the model and name as marketed by Seth Thomas.
- Westminster [Quarters] chime, aka Cambridge chimes, The tune was adapted in mid 19th century for “Big Ben” in the famous clock tower at Westminster Quarters or Palace of Westminster, London. This tune originated from St Mary the Great, Cambridge. It was written in 1793 for the new clock at St Mary’s, the Great, the University Church in Cambridge.
- Whittington chime, aka St Mary’s chimes, from Sy Mary-le-bow, London. It’s use originating from an English theater story adapted from the life of Richard Whittington on hearing the tune ringing from St Mary-le-bow in London in 1392. This seemed to reinvigorate the boy to “Turn again Dick Whittington” and he went on to find his fortune and later become Mayor of London. He purportedly used the tune as a campaign song for his terms as mayor.
