This is helpful, what setter would I get? Is it the same setter each time or multiple sizes needed? New here, like the detailed steps.

What was wrong with the belt you were working on that you had to swap it to another at the 5:50 mark?

Metal on metal is a bad idea. Quick way to ruin tools and possibly shatter your granite. Better to use a non-metal mallet or hammer.

Is Ohio Carry's hardware solid brass or plated? Went to Tandy with a magnet and every single type of snap they carry is plated steel. I didn't know their rivets and snaps were plated steel when I first started making knives and the sheaths to go with them. I had a customer come back 3 months after I sold him a fillet knife and he wasn't happy about the rusty sheath from his trip to Florida. There wasn't an internet then and I had to change my knife securing method, luckily Tandy does have solid brass rivets. Your setter is too big for the snap and imprints the leather, would be an issue on a side that shows. I have a grinder and ground my setter down to slightly smaller than the cap. That said, I always use Chicago screws on belts anyway. I never thought about using snaps, but I guess I could. I get almost all my hardware from Zack White Leather in North Carolina as the carry solid brass snaps, Lines 20-34. The Buckle Guy is another source and I don't think they carry any plated steel hardware at all. I bought a solid brass buckle at the Tandy store near me and it was brass except the tongue was magnetic. LOL

Florida trip with a solid brass would end in verdigris, which is just as bad as rust for ruining the look of leather. If any of your customers are going near the ocean, only stainless style will not tarnish. Ohio travel bag sells line 20 and 24 snaps in solid brass, the style of glove snaps in the video I wouldn't recommend, they're quite weak and easy to fail, 99% of folks will use a line24. Tongue on heavy duty buckles is steel so that it won't bend, brass is very soft. This is why all old tack generally has steel tongues that get a little rusty.

Thank you for your suggestions, I also grabbed a magnet this morning and tested the pieces that are Brass in color and they did not stick to the magnet.

@@Stevieboy7 Wasn't a heavy duty buckle though. My brass hardware on the 20 S30V knives I sold in Florida to mostly Charter skippers tarnishes, but it just turns green and doesn't spread. They like my knives because it takes a lot of fish before they go dull. Needs diamond to sharpen though.
