Excellent info. It was helped understand and set teeth better on my denture set ups. I understand better how teeth articulate differently. Awesome video!!
Hi Dr. Robert Loney, Thank you for the video. I learnt a great deal about lingualized occlusion. Recently, I have read about neutral zone impression technique. Do you recommend implementing this technique for a more accurate denture fabrication? If yes, would it be possible for you to discuss such technique in your video? Thank you, Mike
Normally, I don't advocate for use of the neutral zone technique. Adherents of the technique suggest placing denture teeth where facial and lingual forces are equalized, in order to optimize the stability of a denture, particularly when the residual ridges are severely resorbed. While superficially this sounds reasonable, the technique has no research to support its use and it is often more work than a traditional technique. To my mind it does not sufficiently take into account the importance of lip support in relation to appearance and phonetics. The position of natural teeth (and hence natural appearance) has not been shown to correlate to a 'neutral zone'.
