Thanks for this. I’ve had my Z900 for a year and haven’t adjusted anything. I saw a Dave Moss video too and am now aware that o could improve things massively. Thanks for the straightforward approach. It’s given me the confidence to have a go. 👍🏼
Dave is awesome to learn from. Z900 is easy to set up. My ‘17 had the front rebound way too soft so I had to go all the way closed and rear so hard went all the way open. So rear will get ok as oil wears… front will need thicker oil. Too thin from factory. There’s an option for rear to install ohlins factory shock from the special edition 900 bike. Great for using with a passenger.
Great content as always Mark. I also have a z900 albeit the previous model. I went through the same as you in the front end, and it highlighted how bad the back end is. It just felt soft and would squat more then I liked. So I took it to a specialist and asked them to give me some recommendations. The front was spot on 😊 but the back they said the spring was too soft, ideally I should swap it, they made the rebound a little harder, which I did notice, but that’s all they could really do. I would need 10mm (I think) of preload to get it where it would need to be, but that would lock the spring and isolate the shock, creating an even worse ride, think pogo stick. They asked if I would like to change the spring to suite my weight (14st6 for reference) I said I would. I’d love to be able to give you an update, but unfortunately they are a not a serviceable part so can’t change the spring on its own. So, be careful if you need to dial in too much rear preload, great for passengers, but not to dial out a large amount of sag. You can’t seem to change the spring, you’ll need a new shock. I’m looking forward to the next instalment, and see if you can set yours up, you’re lighter then me so may be you will be good. If not, you’re great at finding solutions, and I’m great at nicking them 🤣
Hi, Great video ! There is something you can measure to assertain if the rebound is incorrect. If the tyres have been on new without any suspension changes for a number of miles. The stipes are the valleys between the tread landscape of the tyre. The two rubber cliff walls are the leading and trailing edge, respectively. The wall that hits the tarmac first (when rolling forward) is the leading edge. If this leading edge is higher and sharper than the trailing edge, then the rebound is dialled in too much, also described as too hard, or too slow. If the trailing edge is sharp and higher then the opposite applies. We all ought to seek to learn to read our tyres.
Your rebound is far too open. Your front end should go down, then up and stop. As yours returns up it drops again so your front end is like a pogo stick. So in my opinion you need to tighten rebound more 👍
From Portugal - Mafra / Ericeira os meus agradecimentos
Which headstand did you get? I ordered one from Amazon for my 2020 Z900, but I have to remove the front fender to get the pin into the steering sector as it pushes down on my fender. I'm gonna send it back.
I did a vid on stands at the link below - see about 4 mins in. It's a biketek stand with a extra head pin that you buy separately. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C0nFqPVP9m8.htmlsi=bobqGlwiTtnK6Q0U
Mark, my apologies but I really don't understand perfectly but what is the best Kawazaki front setup for you ?!?! . Thank you for your attention and if you can say ok 👍
Hi. Nice chanell you got. Tell me hiw you front feels at higher speed. I see you set it 15 click from clockwise. I set it 8 click for now just 2 clicks from stock setting didnt ride it yet cuz road is all salty and wet. But i been riding it whit front rebound whit just 2 click from clockwise and its been harsh ride but you could feel what bike was doing in front. So i was quesing if you feel your bike wobbling or jumping to much on the road now when you set it that way? Have a great day and safe riding😊❤
Hi, I corrected this in part 2! Going to 15 clicks from clockwise was a massive change and didn't work once I started to ride a bit further and faster. Like you I now have it set to 8 clicks from clockwise and this feels really good. Lesson learned - adjust a few clicks at a time!
