I got the chance to ride Connor Fearon’s old Kona Operator DH bike. He sold it to a local guy who asked for my help to set the bike up for him. I only had time for condensed setup session but this is the setup I came up with.
Hey ! Stoked ive found this video ! I just bought this exact bike (Connor's) and i have a rattle sound coming from the front end (fork or headset/reach adjust assembly idk) is the bike rattling in your video? I cant really tell.. been scratching my head a lot on this one haha
Would you say that year and model Kona operator is worth buying as an inexpensive dh bike today? I see them for sale on Pinkbike for really cheap and thinking about buying one. Thanks!
Any chance you know the compression and rebound tune of the shock? I'm curious if it has the standard RS digressive tune (which I do not get along with). Just sent my SD Ultimate Coil off for a Vorsprung Tractive Tune.
My friend just bought that bike second hand. It's Connor's old bike, maybe not this one exactly, I don't know. Have you heard any weird knocking or clacking sound coming from the fork/headset? He installed a new fork, inspected the headset. The shop told him it's "normal". I don't know if it could be the reach adjust chip from the headset. My friend is pretty mechanically inclined, but he is left baffled by this sound.
Hi. Do you know what support exactly your bike has got. I have the same oparator 2020 and I would like to buy xo crankset but I am not sure what support is going to fitt correctly.
Hey Telly great vid and im only halfway thru but you mentioned something about the boxxer maybe being too fast becuz when landing you said it wanted to steer off the track. This right here is something ive been pondering because on a few drops i have filmed i noticed that when landing the front end would "squirm" or wobble and want to veer off to one side. Are you saying that's due to rebound being too fast?? Is that the only reason for the front wanting to do that or could there be other variables??
There are many variables that could be causing that, not enough spring rate to catch you, a lack of compression damping control, rebound too fast causing the fork to extend erratically. In this case most other variables are covered leaving me to think the rebound stroke was a likely cause, potentially a combo between slightly under sprung and rebound too fast. Maybe lacking a little ramp in the stroke as well
