I see hummingbirds in my garden, but they don't seem to go to the butterfly feeder. However, I think your right, hummingbirds should like the sugar, mineral water.

Sarah, I am glad you liked the feeder. I bought my butterfly feeder from Kelsey's Wild Bird Store in North Oaks, MN. I bought the Feeder mix from Mills Fleet Farm in Monticello, MN. I think it is best to wait until you see lots of butterflies. When the monarchs have got back from their migration and the first wave of eggs are laid. So, I would suggest waiting til June. Good Luck!

What about the fruit attracting wasps? I don't mind regular bees. But, I worry about attracting wasps. Do you have that issue on your feeder?

I haven't had too many wasps, but the bees like the fruit also. I cut up pieces small and change out every 2-3 days.

Thanks for the video! I just bought the same exact butterfly feeder and this video was very helpful! Do you have any idea where I can get a little hook to hang my butterfly feeder on? I was wondering if you had any recommendations for which ones are best.

I just got a short Shepherd's Hook from Home Depot. The medal rod is probably 4 feet high and the feeder hangs down about a foot, which is perfect to hover above the plants and flowers. Good Luck!

I have a question. I have seen butterfly feeders that seem to have something sticking out of the feeding ports so they can feed from. I purchased a feeder that has spaces for fruit but it also has ports. I would like to place something inside the ports that soak up the nectar, then sticks out of the port so they can feed off it. I know your feeder is different but I think I can adapt mine to work. Do you know what I might be able to use. I have a photo of one I saw online but I cannot attach it to this comment

I don't have any great advice on how to get the nectar feed to stick out of the ports. Ideally the butterfly would stick their proboscis through the holes into the nectar. Although I must admit I haven't seen that done on my feeder. The butterflies seem to just gravitate to the fruit. Good Luck!

Thank you for replying. I cut a sponge down and let it sit in the hole and soak up the nectar. The feeder drew so many flies though that I took it down. I was disappointed.

Tina, I think hummingbird feeders usually is a sugar and water mix. The Butterfly nectar has sugars, but also has salts, amino acids and some protein. Plus no dyes. Where often hummingbird food often uses a red dye to attract the hummingbirds.
