You’re limiting yourself, but a Tascam Model 12 can record directly. But you don’t get access to virtual instruments ans midi programming without a computer.
Some RME interfaces have their "DURec" tech built-in, that can record and play multiple channels straight to a thumb drive, without being connected to a computer. They cost as much as a computer, though. The cheapest with DURec is the UCX II, as far as I know. They also have a class-compliant mode so you can connect to an iPad Pro, for instance. Beware there's definitely a learning curve to their software, but they've got a great reputation for long-term support and stability. Also beware, questions on the forum will generally be met with "read the manual", which fair enough I suppose if the answer's in the manual. It certainly feels more catered to "engineers' than "enthusiasts" if that makes sense, in terms of the user experience. I've been pretty happy with my Fireface 802 FS, apart from wishing there was digital gain control for the preamps. I've been using it to record a power trio setup with stereo in/out with personal cue mixes for each "station", and it's been a lot of fun. No DURec in that one, but it does have a standalone operation mode where you can at least jam through the thing without a computer connected. If you really don't wanna spend time fiddling with software, something Tascam adjacent may be the better route.
