Dwarf and Semi-Dwarf trees need to be trained to a central leader, spreading the branches to strengthen the branch/stem union and allow more light to reach the stem.

What plants do you recommend to soften edges in zone 5B (NW corner of Ohio)? What is the average time for the DR. Deer Pear tree to produce fruit after planting in a deer orchard?

Expect to see fruit on a Dr. Deer Pear 2 years after planting. Soft edge options for your zone include Chickasaw Plum, Viburnum, Sumac, and Mulberry.
