So if I am understanding this correctly, the Radiomaster R81 is a FrSky D series compatible receiver, so this should work on my Turnigy 9x which I have installed a FrSky DJT module(which I have been using with the FrSky D8R-II Plus that came with it). Does that sound right?

Nick, I am trying to get into FPV and have bought a BabyApe. My question for you is how’d you learn what everything in betaflight is/means? I’m a little technically challenged as I probably have 25yrs on you so I didn’t grow up with computers. I am using your video to help me set up the BabyApe, but I’d like to understand Betaflight, it seems very complex and over my head but I want to better understand it.

Right now the best resource I have found for understanding Betaflight is the Joshua Bardwell RU-vid channel. He has a full playlist that goes through everything. i have the exact same setup on my baby ape pro (and same radiomaster R81 reciver) but the RSSI keeps flashing zero on my OSD. Any idea on how to fix it?

Nice and helpful tutorial! I recently got the same drone an receiver, could bind it with my tx12, but the signal is so poor and I cant find the error. Soldering is well, signal D8. Any ideas?

With the international module you could first try fine tuning the frequency and that could help, check the antenna are fully connected and not blocked bay anything or damaged, and it’s also possible it could just be faulty hardware. Frsky isn’t the best protocol when it comes to range. Are you getting failsafes close by or just warnings?

I think the cheapest way to get everything you need would be the rtf (ready to fly) kit for the baby ape. It comes with the drone, batteries, radio and goggles.

Those two should bind together no problem. On your TX12, you should have the Internal RF on and set to multi / Frsky D / D8

Hey pueblo here! Just came across your videos trying to find a good cheap drone to have some fun with but don't want to spend too much. I wanted To go the build route but becomes pretty expensive when adding in controller and batteries 😅

It definitely adds up quick. Going the “ready to fly kit” rout is a pretty good way to start, the baby ape now comes in a ready to fly kit that’s a pretty good deal. But if you know what controller and goggles you ultimately want, you’ll save money down the road buying those first so you don’t have to buy more than one. Let me know if I can help

Hello. My baby ape only beeps 3 times in betaflight configurator insteased of 6 times to show that a setting has been saved on the flight controller. Any hel Guys on what i should do ?

I believe the first 3 beeps is confirming esc powered up and the 4th is throttle input is being read and the 5th is confirming throttle is at zero. So try having your controller is on and bound with throttle down otherwise betaflight may not have your throttle input at zero so you won’t get those beeps. If you’re still not getting the last 2 beeps, your 5v regulator may have stopped working and will need to be replaced

Yeah, definitely, the r81 receiver I installed in this video uses a FrSky protocol. And just about all other receivers will solder up to the baby ape in the same way. And I’m always happy to help (:

It’s not just you, it is a lot and can be overwhelming at first but it’s we’ll worth it. Just go your own pace and try out some simulators with your tx12 and you’ll be flying in no time

If you get the Elrs version the receiver will already be soldered to the drone so you won’t need to do any soldering, so all you will have to do is bind it to your controller and you’re good to go

difference between ELRS receiver and r81 receiver

To sum it up roughly elrs receivers are open source and will work with any transmitter with elrs protocol so there are lots of options of manufacturers and frequencies. The r81 will only work with transmitters that have frsky d8 protocol, which is still pretty common to find. But past that the main difference is the r81 receiver has a range of about 1km or 0.5 of a mile, and elrs receivers have ranges of 30km or more

@@planes917 no, if you choose for it to come with the receiver it will come with it installed. And the maximum distance can vary depending on a lot of different factors but in perfect open air conditions you will be able to go as far as you want and would only be limited by flight time and video signal

That should be no problem. I believe a flysky receivers will connect to the baby ape the same way as the R81 receiver using the same solder pads.

Unfortunately it is to set up the receiver and your controller. unless you get a fully ready to fly kit that comes with everything already set up for you

Haha yeah no problem, the receiver you have will work with no issues. The baby ape comes with solder already on the ground, 5v, and sbus pads which make connecting a receiver super simple. It’s also has available rx and tx pads for receivers that require them.

@@719FPV @719 FPV @719 FPV this receiver Radiolink R8SM has a concert has a plug pulged into the receiver and 3 wires coming off it just solder the wires to the baby ape pro and the seller on ebay said there is a 4 pin connecter for the receiver r does it have it on there

@@719FPV I got my baby ape pro in the mail today and it has 4 wires on the plug on the board and my receiver has three wires so do I just desolder all four wires The wires and solder my three wires onto it and do I need the white wire that is coming off that plug because mine I have three wires

Dont buy this drone. you will get so sorry for doing so. there is a reason that they are so cheap. Me and one of my friends ordered one each and both are not working and they will do nothing, nothing to help us. I even wanted to buy the flight controller for that had a faulty usb connector but no no help at all. so just buy immersion rc for nearly the same price and you will get a tested reliable drone for under 20 euro's
