I love this video!! On May 28th, 1937 My Mom and Dad were married at their parents farm; in the living room. Their best friends stood up for them with both sets of parents there with the Pastor and Wife. Mom had a diary. In it she shares she went out to the end of the porch and picked Sweet Peas for her Wedding bouquet and flowers around the house. After their vows were said all their friends and cousins and neighbors came to the farm for a potluck dinner. Mom always shared when she used her cabbage and potatoe grater that this 25 cent item her cousin gave her was the most used wedding gift!! and she gave me one with a rolling pen at my wedding shower in 1969. She always had her sweet peas growing at our house all through the years. Dad passed away when he was 75 and she at 88. A rich God centered marriage that was blessed with 8 children, I am #5, and 25 grandkids; but now our family is well over 100. Keep growing them.....I am going to try in SC too. You are always a blessing and helpful!! HUGS!!

Okay, I'm going to send you a virtual hug 🤗. You grow alot of beautiful thing's and you say " oh,I will just give them out to family and friends," and in this day and age you don't hear that. Makes my heart happy to know that you and Aaron work your butts off (especially during the summer time when it gets hotter than 2 mice making out in a wool sock) and you just give them out to your neighbors, family, friends and last year even strangers. You sweet lady have a big ❤.

My dad's nickname for me was Sweet Pea and I still fondly remember the spring that we planted sweet peas and grew them on a trellis in our backyard patio. I remember everyday checking it out together. Watching this video brought back so many wonderful memories with my dad and gardening. I lost my Dad when I was young, just out of high school, and there's so many things that will bring his memory back so close to my heart ❤ .....this video especially 😊...thank you for the inspiration for the sweet memory recall and now I definitely want to grow sweet peas!!!

Laura, for your "T" posts, put up with them this season and when you take them down just dip the white end into a can of black paint (or green to match), let them dry and you will be done with minimal fuss. Easy on you, minimal mess and voila!

The sweet peas will be beautiful on the panels. I love using hog panels for fencing. I moved to the country 20 years ago. My daughter was in junior high school and we fenced in an acre for our large dogs with t-post and hog panels. (we have also had a miniature horse and a couple of goats over there) The great thing about those panels is they never need stretching ☺. It was a lot of work driving t-post into red clay but we survived and stood back with pride that we accomplished it by ourselves. Good memories.

This is so exciting! I seriously look forward to your videos every day. I’ve never been the fangirl type, and I watch very few RU-vid channels consistently. In fact, yours is the only one I won’t miss a video for! Watching this property develop is such a fun experience. It’s amazing how it seems to grow smaller as it fills in with structure. At least through the camera anyway. When we bought our one acre, it seemed huge coming from a city cookie cutter situation, but now it is way too small for all of my dreams! Thank you for inspiring me and teaching me!

Aaron, you can use the underside of your tractor loader to push the T-posts down into the ground. Just slip a piece of pipe (the height you want your post to stand) over it before you start to keep it from bending. It’s faster and saves those tired arms! You need an assistant to place each post in position and hold it til you make contact with the loader as you go and to eyeball the post to keep it straight with the world. My husband and I have made miles of fence this way.

First time working with sweet peas. I tried them 2 ways. Planting directly outside as seeds and starting them inside under grow lights. I only kept them inside for 2 weeks and then planted them outside because they were outgrowing their containers. Figured survival of the fittest 🤣. I live in Colorado and they have been outside for 2-3 weeks now and are doing fabulous, even those planted outside as seeds are starting to come up. Will cover my pansies and sweet peas at night this week as we are supposed to get into the 20’s but they seem to be thriving in the cool weather. So very happy to be trying them out this year. Thanks for all you do!

@lorindav5549
@lorindav5549 3 года назад
If you have a lot of t posts to drive, you can rent/buy a gas or electric powered t post driver. Time & body saver for sure. When we build fences for our garden, we have the cattle panels up off the ground to give them more height and it's easier to work the soil or weed if necessary. I don't remember if you have one or not but a t post puller makes it much easier to take it all down too. It's going to be beautiful when everything is blooming!

If I could offer a suggestion on the zip ties. We used to zip tie a Cooloroo sun shade screen by our deck. The wind used to blow it over in a big windstorms. We had to go with heavy duty zip ties and they lasted a year. With all of the plants on the panels it may get blown over in one of your hum dinger wind storms you get on a regular basis.

Hi Aaron and Laura 👋🏼 Will you guys be keeping these structures up? So you don’t have to redo every year? Now that the flower garden will be permanent 🙂

Yes, even if they have to rotate crops, dahlias would be very happy supported by that fence.

For added height of the panels, you could leave the t-posts a bit higher and start the panels off the ground several inches, or even a foot. Once the sweet peas are growing, I don’t think you would see a gap at the bottom. Just a thought. 😊🌺

Great teamwork!! Wish my husband was as supportive of my addiction. Last weekend he sounded like the dad on 'A Christmas Story' as he was digging a hole for me. The neighbors were kind enough to let me know they could hear everything. How embarrassing 😳

So sorry to hear. My husband is not so helpful either. I understand.

I feel your pain! Years ago I brought home three beautiful azaleas and asked my husband to please help me dig some to put them in. Of course he went out alone during the heat of the day, dug the holes, threw the shovel down and said “don’t ever ask me to do that again!“. So I didn’t. I think he really lost out on the fun, don’t you?

Love the look! Just an idea on the height of the panels...you can raise them up off the ground a bit as well. That would give you a little more height. That’s what I do for my tomatoes and it helps. 👍

A great plant to grow 1 for the flowers and 2 for the scent. And they do have beautiful scent. Can't wait to see them In there full glory Laura. I feel for Aaron have to bash the poles in the ground. It's a day after when you feel it.

Sweet Peas are my favorite! Mine in zone 8b grow from seed in the ground! I plant them February. I never have problems with them freezing.

Have you ever watched Living Traditions Homestead? Not only are Kevin and Sara very interesting but they own a gas operated metal post driver that sets the post very rapidly. It would be perfect for Aaron when setting all the post in your garden. If interested their video is called We're building a chicken moat to keep them out (meaning the deer).

I remember you planting sweet peas last year - but did you ever show us how they did? Plus love them in vases - maybe some arrangements. Thanks.

That is a lot of sweet peas! So glad you have the space to grow them and we get to see all the varieties. I love the fence painted black! When do we get to see the design for the shed? 😊

all those sweet peas! how fun! so here's a far-fetched idea: take some of your hoops and make a top between the 2 sets of ranch panels, and make a sweet pea tunnel for Benjamin (because you have so much time on your hands, hahaha)... that's where my brain went when you were saying the panels might not be tall enough, lol... i'm sure wonderman Paul could figure out how to attach the hoops to the panels i cannot wait to see your cut flowers this year... and i love LOVE that fence!! things are shaping up fast!! so exciting!! Aaron is funny, of course he's excited for those sweet peas! haha.. thanks for the video!!
