Jason. I have 40+ yrs. MBO, Bahm, Stahl and Horizon experience. Please call what you say is the plow a DEFLECTOR. In Folding terminology a Tri-Fold more is referred as a roll fold. The newer scoring method is called a Tri-Score and could get confused. Before you changed the angle of folds you should make sure straight travel while entering plate and sheet is staying true to the side guide. Love folding in my blood. Dave
Not meaning to be rude, but I struggled with this video. You should not be teaching ppl incorrect operation. Firstly it's called a deflector, not a plough. Second , never ever place the folding edge of the plate on its face like that. You should of laid it on the table. And the last error I can't pass, is that you are using a bottom plate on the top unit.
I have 38 yrs experience in the bindery (now retired) and you're right. Also, the one sample that he had that he said was good was totally unacceptable.
Yes. If you use a lower buckle plate (which usually has an "even" no. 2,4,6 etc.) in an upper position (1,3,5 etc.) then the size adjustment dial will be on the "drive" side of the machine and not the operator's side. Plus the lower buckle plates have a different entry lip profile and a wider internal capacity. These two factors can influence the accuracy of the folding process.
@Lawrence Sue. To fold DIN A3 (420 x 297mm) to 8pp menu (105 x 297mm) try this. If you have 4 buckle plates in your folding machine (2 upper Nos. 1 and 3, 2 lower Nos. 2 and 4) set them as follows. Buckle plate 1 = 210mm Buckle plate 2 = deflector Buckle plate 3 = 105mm Buckle plate 4 = deflector This will have the effect of "tumbling" the sheet through the folder. It's easier to work in the upper plates because you can see the sheet in the plates and you don't have to stoop down to the lower plates to adjust them. For the roller callipers Roller 1 = 1 thickness Roller 2 = 2 thickness Roller 3 = 2 thickness Roller 4 = 4 thickness Roller 5 = 4 thickness If you have adjustable Slitter Shafts put in 4 thickness. If not you are ready to go! When you load the sheets, put the "head" of the menus towards the angled infeed sidelay and the title/cover panel trailing at the back of the feeder away from the suction wheel. Good luck!

I love my little pile feeder. Cranking max speed, the sensor reads 27-28k sheets/hour for a standard 8.5x11 trifold.. Obviously I'm not getting jobs done that quickly because I gotta stop and reload my pile but still, awesome to see those numbers.
nice video about a buckle folding machine, i am a new student in print finishing and i can tell you need lot of patience to adjust these machines, what kind of feeders doest this machine use?
@@adambutch8832 The Flip deflector stop. You are referencing something to the effect of Trifold. The 2 in the discussion of folder components and their workings are completely different. One is an actual component of the machine and the other is a product which can be produced by the machine..... Hope this helps....

@Adam Butch. This guy is giving out lots of incorrect information. How can this folded product be a "Tri-fold"? There are three panels and two folds! In the U.K. we call this a letter fold or 3-panel roll fold. When folding leaflets and prospectus type products, you always have 1 more panel/page than you do folds. This is because the folded product always has a "tail" which drives it into the buckle plate. The part of the video where this operative shows the tilt adjustment on the buckle plate? Those splines on the plastic dials move the sheet stop about 1mm. Normally they are on the operator's end of the buckle plate. As his job is narrow you would have to move the dial more to compensate for out of square folding. If you want to learn some basics about folding, try to find a copy of "Folding In Practice" by Alfred Furler. This manual was commissioned by Stahl some years ago but the information is still valuable. Good luck and please remember the man who knows everything about folding and folding machines is dead.
