In this short video I have an initial look at setting up the MP1 Superantenna for VHF bands 2m, 4m, 6m plus 10m. I've had the antenna for a couple of years however not got around to using it for VHF. This video is just a first look, not an extensive test, I'm hoping to get outdoors with it and see if I can make contacts on it.
I'm a licensed amateur radio operator from the United Kingdom. My RU-vid channel features videos focusing on operating portable radio from various locations plus how to videos, tutorials, insights and conversations in the hobby.

For 2m you really only need the telescopic whip. Just screw it directly into the low profile tripod base and measure to 17” then adjust up or down slightly to adjust the SWR.

I just purchased the MP-1LX. This is the MP-1 with the tripod and ground radials with a few extras tossed in. It claims to work from 40 meters right up to 6 meters. But the product description is very vague on how.. I called the local distributor (Ham Radio Outlet) here in the USA, and they told me with a little adjusting it will tune to 6.... Super Antenna’s website is quite vague on how to tune for 6 meters as well! And of course there is no telephone number to call and ask,,, From the photos I have seen on the Super Antenna website, for 6m looks like you use the supplied telescopic whip with one of the bottom sections of aluminum rod, bringing the radiator section to about 54 inches (137 cm). For 2 meters, looks as if you just use the telescoping section by itself. So in essence it just a 1/4 wave with no loading. Seem the MC-2 is a diplexer for HF and 2 meters..... I have not received the antenna yet, and of course they do not carry the MC-2 diplexer.. I really want to see how well this antenna performs and take various VSWR readings through the bands... And as a few others posted........ Looks as your dog is as excited about Amateur Radio as mine is!!!!

Ha yes super excited. I've not grasped regular use of VHF on this antenna, I should keep trying

i tested mine on 6 meters and it resonates well, i used the original coil for 40 meters and tuned down just below 10 meters (couple of lines from the bottom) , now we need some activities do a real test 73 de 2E0RPS

I got the MP1 about 3 months ago, and I love it, it breaks down into an incredibly small size. I use the supplied tripod. I have no problem making contacts with the Yaesu FT-891 and MP1 and even made it from Ireland to Canada on 20 meters @100 watts about a month ago. I have not used the 80 meter coil yet, when I go out portable it's usually during the day so I wouldn't be using the 80 M band. The Antenna is also very quick and easy to set up, when I don't want to use my EFHW and mess with trees the MP1 is perfect. It's a great high quality product, I love it. It has greatly exceeded my expectations.

Hi Carl, great vid. You don’t need the duplexer. Using just the extension rods, the telescopic whip and a tape measure you can tune it to 2, 4 and 6m. You just need an extra connector nut thing whatever they are called. I use 2 x mp1s in my setup as a Lazy L or a dipole so no need for radials. It’s a really versatile antenna system you only need a few extra bits and pieces and you can use it on most of the ham bands :-)

Brilliant, I need to find that telescopic whip!! I like the idea of combining two MP1's cheers Mark

A soooper ham and dog garden Lurk. My antenna came down in the recent high winds, bottom of the garden looks like an Alcan factory and will take some time to sort, so I chucked the tripod super Antenna in the garden used the reference card and my AA-600 Analyser and set it up for 20m FT4/8 and it is flipping brilliant. And not much different to the “fixed” antennas and wires. I bought it with great plans for for a bit of hilltop/countryside/woodland lurking like yourself then COVID came along so first time to use it. Impressed. Nice one Carl, would like to see some night time deepest darkest spooky woodland overnighters ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️73s

Yes I've not done a wild camp this year, mostly due to lockdown and also lots of people are wild camping and creating a mess and damage to camping locations, I'm staying away from those people this year and not adding to problem.

2E0EZT amateur radio yes I can understand that. Idiots seem to be just trashing everything they can get away with. Looking forward to better times. Back to business, have you had a crack at the FT891? I have one in the car it’s hooked up to an SCU-17 I bash a bit of FT8/4 at lunch times but size and weight wise it’s ideal for a lurk. And the 100W output would need a wind down to preserve the flattery. All the best keep em coming, very entertaining.. ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️

Keep trying and you will get it working on the bands as per the spec. Lots of parts to that antenna but very versatile.

Cheers, yes I'd totally ignored the VHF capabilities, I'm hoping to work 10m and VHF from a backpack during this summer's sporadic e. I need to find the missing telescopic whip for 2m and maybe 4m. I may even have to read the instructions.

LOL very funny at the end. I'm not a fan of the super antenna Carl. I think a piece of wire cut to the right length will work just as well or better but I can see that it is convenient. When using qrp we need our antenna's to be efficient. Sandy

Yes I bought this antenna in my first few weeks of playing radio, I'm hoping to find a purpose and some hope for it.

Good day sir, I want to setup location VHJ system for my fishing 🎣 community they don’t have any radio communication when go miles out to 🌊 sea. I want know what’s a good setup that would help me buying the right VHJ system. Thank you
@M0SZT

To operate at sea it requires a special licence (for example in the UK coastal waters), I would check with your Admiralty

2E0EZT amateur radio what a two way communication private, just want to make sure they able radio for help if he reach that far.
@M0SZT
@M0SZT 4 года назад
@@bushbomb21b9 private comms would require a business licence, if the radio is required for SOS at sea then it really needs to be a marine VHF radio which requires a licence. You may be able to use CB radio at sea but check the licence conditions for example this is OFCOM's www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0022/84406/citizens-band.pdf

I'm a little lost now. So you didn't actually get it set up then? How many parts are there going to be to this series? :)

It tuned into 10m, it tuned into 6m, it didn't tune into 2m, which bit are you lost over? :)

Never mind, I was trying to do two things at once and listen to your video. I've obviously misinterpreted something somewhere. I'll watch it again in the mornig :)

I'm hoping to get the MP1 on a hill somewhere and try it across 10m and hopefully some of the VHF bands, I just wanted to work out the best setup, disappointed that I've misplaced the telescopic whip but now looking at the instructions it says I can use the other whip but this didn't tune for me.
