*FORGOT TO MENTION THIS IN THE VIDEO:* I use a HACS frontend repository also called WallPanel for displaying the screensaver when the tablet isn't being used. The documentation is quite extensive so hopefully it's not too difficult to get working; here's a link if you want to try it out yourself: my.home-assistant.io/redirect/hacs_repository/?owner=j-a-n&repository=lovelace-wallpanel&category=plugin
Found you by from my RU-vid recommendations, couldn't be more grateful. Thanks for this! Your interest and knowledge in smart home will benefit you in multiple ways in future. You better start preparing your CV before you forget what you did :) Subbed!
Great video. Love the dashboard! FWIW: They don't have native 12 hour time sensors because all time is in 24 hours... don't be a bad American thinking the world revolves around us. Adopt International Time (ISO) time.
Hi, I wanted to ask if it's possible for you to create a video showing how to download everything needed. You demonstrate it in the video, but I couldn't figure it out as I'm quite new to this. I also think it would be really cool.
This is really useful and gives a good step up to create your own dashboard. Does anyone have advice to make the screen a bit 'shorter' ? I'm running it on a Tab9 and you need to scroll to see the bottom of the page. I've reproportioned the buttons and it's helped but the footer is off the page
I am having the same problem. Did you ever find a fix for this? The gap between the top row (Lights and Climate) and the next one below is huge for me.
Hey Jimmy great dashboard! I've set this up yesterday. I was wondering how to make your dashboard dark without transparency. And make the left menu a bit more rounded off so I could use this with the ios theme.
Great information. May be you can a video where you can utilise old phones as smart display per room. Ie kitchen , living room can just have a old smart phone attached to a wall and only shows devices in that particular room. Now a day can buy cheap second hand phone and tablets. Also lots of people have old phones which are good enough as display.
Somewhat a newbie to HA but managed to get the dashboard working (awesome video btw) but having a few issues that I could use a little assistance with.....1) could you share the sensor code for the lights_on_dashboard sensor? and the other is how to configure the "actions" fr the bottom row of buttons on the dashboard. Again I am somewhat new and learning but these two areas are really giving me a challenge. Thanks in advance!!!
Nice dash. Do yourself a favour though and get the tablet to charge automatically. Best way to do this is use a smart plug and charge it everyday for a certain amount of time based on an automation. One less thing you’ll need to do, right?
I actually already do this, I use the mqtt function of WallPanel to get the battery percentage inside HA. Have it set to turn on when it drops below 65% and turn off once it reaches 80%, as I read that Lithium-ion batteries tend to last longer when kept within this range. You can see the smart plug in the video at 1:38, if you look closely. Appreciate the suggestion though :)
Great video and very helpful! Smoothest 'Like and subscribe' request I've ever seen too! Oh, and change ya sheets! LOL Looking forward to more content from you! Liked and subscribed.
I followed along, but my dashboard has the errors (as I would expect given different entities) but also no formatting whatsoever and the error at the top: Custom element doesn't exist: grid-layout. What am I missing? Edit: I need to do the layouts you listed on GitHub. My mistake.
Nice one. Thanks for the vid. Q. Will this be affected in any way by future android firmware updates? Or is that always sorted with HA updates? Are android based tablet less prone to firmware update breaks within HA compared to other platforms out there? thanks.
so I'm extremely fresh to HA and have this problem, obviously I haven't installed much from hacs. I had this error on screen, showed nothing else. Already having HACS installed I searched and downloaded "layout-card" "card-tools' 'card-mod' 'button-card" "Vertical Stack In Card" "mushroom theme" I've learnt whatever the error is to search for the missing content in hacs or google. I'm not sure how correct this is and if I'll have future errors but I now have a dashboard showing that I can modify from there.
In release 2024.3 the drag and drop feature is introduced. I understood from the dev team that later on the custom card also will be supported. In that way it hopefully will be possible to create dashboards like this without coding.
I like the dashboard cause I am a Apple guy. Damn I wish I knew how to set up dashboards in home assistant or even use it. Hahah would be nice in my new house.
Great Video. One question regarding your 12 hour clock sensor. Everything related tothe date worked fine, however after copying over your code for the timenew sensor, it only shows "Unavalalble". Have the new updates in HA affected this?
Hi, I did everything like on the video, but when I open dashborad on the left sidebar, I do not see dashboard with button, but code with information 'Custom element doesn't exist': grid layout'. Do you know how can I resolve this issue?
Hey Jimmy, love your videos and this dashboard. I am nearly finished setting my dashboard up but have one problem. There is a huge gap between the top rows (lights lights climate) and the row below (media outlets security). It is pushing the content below the screen. Any suggestions for how I would fix this? Thank you.
hi, good video thank you. I have 2 questions : - What is it supposed to happen when you click on the lower cards scenes/music etc.. ? the toggle section is empty and I'd like some ideas - All the phu custom icons aren't handled by default, what extension did you install for them to work please ? Thanks, Very beautiful dashboard BTW, keep up the good work !
@irukafx glad you liked the dashboard and video! For the lower buttons, I use browser-mod to show a popup with further controls based on each button. So, for the scenes button, the popup shows mushroom template cards that activate my most commonly used scenes. You can put pretty much anything you want in the popups, the documentation explains how to do that: github.com/thomasloven/hass-browser_mod. And for the phu icons, you'll want to install custom brand icons, which can be done via HACS.
@msgmi most modern tablets have technology built in that prevents the battery from overcharging and posing a fire hazard. However, if you're still paranoid like me, you can use a smart plug to automate the charging process. Just install the HA app on the tablet, and set up an automation to turn on the plug when the battery drops below a certain threshold and back off when it's sufficiently charged. I have mine set up to kick on when the tablet drops below 65% and back off when it reaches 80, as I read l-ion batteries tend to last longer when kept within that range.
i cant get the 12hr time sensor to work I created a sensor.yaml because i have another sensor i created Can you please share your sensor yaml code :) Great vids btw. keep em up!
Very nice dashboard! Could you let me know if you used any automation or scenes for the Lightning - where it shows how many lights are on (left side screen) and for the sheets changing logic? I am trying to find in dashboard/cards yaml source this variable and i cannot find: sensor.lights_on_dashboard_counter - in another place, where is written. Thanks.
I didnt have the "themes" folder, I've created it and after I've created the file, added the code, next Develepor Tool, called Frontend. But when I go to my profile the team is not available. I just don't get any option to select a theme.
Everything looks like gold! But.. Time section while using {{ now().hour }} : {{ now().minute }} at 2:02 shows 2:2, for 3:09 it will be 3:9 etc.. How to solve this? If its a noob question - forgive me :D
Try using the official date/time integration, which will give you a sensor that provides the 24 hour time: my.home-assistant.io/redirect/config_flow_start?domain=time_date Once you have it set up, use {{ states('sensor.time') }} in the content field.
Hi Jimmy, thanks for sharing your dashboard. I tried today install the dashboard on my HA but I'm facing the issue when I select the new dashboard. I'm receiving the message “custom element doesn’t exist grid layout", could you try to help me on it, please?
Thank you for the video, I want to ask something. I don't want the waiting screen to appear. I want my panel to be open all the time. I couldn't find where I can turn it off.
That's probably because you installed the wallpanel HACS component that shows a screensaver. You can either delete it entirely from HACS or change the "enabled" parameter under the wallpanel config entry to "false". However note that deleting it entirely will mean that the sidebar doesn't automatically get hidden.
I have a galaxy Tab A7 and have setup most of this working well but the buttons are to large and means I need to scroll down to see the second row and the footer. this is doing my head trying to adjust... any tips?
Hi May I ask question for example in my barbecue area I have smart switch if I put wall dashboards inside the house can being controlled from both thank you
Hi Jimmy, I follow the step by step and i encounter an error ( Unable to save YAML: [object Object] ) when i try to save in dashboard > raw configuration editor. Any tips on how to find the issue for this ? Much appreciated thanks
hey and thanx for your cool tutorial. One question please: The app wallpanel can setup an ip-cam. Is there any way to integrate this ip cam to homeassistant?
@CptHardy-ye6xp the username and password fields aren't required, just leave them blank and click submit and it should still go through. Alternatively you can manually set the username & password in the wallpanel app settings and use those when setting up the integration.
