Does that mean that (on a single axle caravan) if your caravan axle weight is heavier than either axle on the tow car, you should enter the MTPLM figure for your caravan?

It definitely takes you different routes to regular sat navs and is better at accurate timings taking your slower speed limits into consideration. However, it doesn’t always pick up on road closures which can be problematic and I found myself having to do a 50 point turn in a dead end when a road was shut this week and had to use google maps to reroute me for a while to get back on track again.

Thanks for replying. I've bought it because on Friday, the M6 was blocked at Preston and my VW sat nav wanted to take me on a tiny B road. I was flapping as our caravan is massive. I got home, watched Dan Trudgeons video and ordered one. Thanks again for replying and take care Tanya.

@@DDLovett I had a very similar situation this week. I ended up on some awful roads both tiny, narrow ones and navigating Maidstone town centre. It’s the first time I wasn’t happy with the sat nav BUT I hadn’t pre-checked the route on the mydrive app and I will now absolutely do that before every journey. I strongly suggest you do the same and not just assume it will be fine

@@TravellingBox We have a bridge near us that is very narrow. Even narrower than normal now that the council have put bollards in place to make it impossible for lorries and vans to attempt crossing. The tomtom camper seems to think it's fine to go over this even though the caravan is a foot wider than the bollards. It turns out that the bridge is classified as a 4ton limit so the sat nav thinks its possible as our outfit is only 3.5t. I have changed the settings in the satnav so it thinks my outfit is 5.1tons and hey presto. No more routing through narrow bridges.

@@DDLovett yeah, I’ve over estimated the dimensions of my set up specifically to make the journey as easy as possible. Update the maps as often as possible too

Honestly, I did! It doesn’t say not to plug in directly to the device. As I say “APITA” absolute pain in the ... err ... bottom 😂😂

Travelling Box to be fair I would I’ve done the same. So what if you stick the sat nav to the dash, can you only charge it up in the car as you can’t take the base in the house ?

Gixer750pilot well I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to take the charging cradle indoors as well as it’s not a permanent fixture but i don’t think you’ll need to do that usually. You’ll keep it plugged in and charging whilst on the move and it does hold a charge for a few hours. Most of what you do out of the car would be done on the MyDrive app when you’re home. I’ll keep you updated after I’ve tested it out for a few months to get to grips with the thing.
