That’s exactly what I do , I tune the bow to me and the arrow. But I must admit I don’t have that problem anyway , I broke my arm badly when I was 12 and the doctor set it crooked such that I have a weird bow that eliminates string slap!!! But this is a method I don’t recommend! Lol

You said it very well. Tune the bow to you!

I’m lucky that I very rarely slap my arm. I’m running my ASL at just under 7”, but even when I had it at 6 1/4” I never hit my arm. Only time I use one is with loose sleaves or ghillie/leafy suit.

Hi Jason, I want to get started in traditional bowhunting but I´m kind of lost because I know nothing about archery. The only thing I have to begin with is a 25 lbs recurve and I was wondering if I could start hunting rabbits with it (with a set of proper arrows obviously) or I should buy a higher lb bow (I was thinking 40 lbs). I´m from a small city from Argentina and there´s no place that I can get good advice besides the internet (and there´s absolutely no bowhunting here btw). Also I really like your videos, they´re really helpful so keep it going. Thanks
@SamkoTradBow

25 pounds will work great on rabbits. Use braodheads with a big washer behind the head to prevent pass thru. Then go have fun and hunt rabbits. When you are ready ro hunt bigger game or ready for another bow then jump up in bow weight.

Or just don’t pistol grip your bow. Hold it with 3 fingers and your knuckles at a 45 degree angle and you will never hit your arm at all

No, it’s not you, the first thing I do is hay my friend make me a D-55 thicker string and my bow isn’t angry anymore and I’m happy too. I don’t care about to 5 fps either. I shoot a string fallow too. Very smooth! Thanks, I was wondering about if brace hight and the slap.
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow Год назад
Yep same here. The skinny strings slap my arm bad for some reason

I know what you mean, I have a bow that is old all fiberglass 60 inch longbow and I have to have a 4 inch brace height for the bow to work best being as small as I am and endless loop B-50 I have found if it has the proper string set for the poundage will work fine for the all fiberglass bow. The other bow the recurve that can't be below 7 inches or the bow will not work and drag the arrow; I also switched from the endless loop to the Flemish in Spectra that is close to D--97 not for speed but lasting longer then got it at 2 inch less size due to how much stretch the bow has. The other bow a Youth hickory Longbow at 45 pounds made for my draw exactly from GREAT PLAINS TRADITIONAL BOW COMPANY, the bows do come with such a thin string in serving I might have to due to comfort upgrade to a larger strand bowstring but I plan on using the 6.25 inch brace height with this bow due to size of the bow is basically an American Style Shortbow (ASS) since the owner Shane said when he made the bow what range works best for the bow and he responded with 6--7 inch but can be as high as 8.5 inch without damage and as low as 4.5 inch and still work well for 90% of small adult and teen archers use without issue, Going more then 8.5 inch some bows have broke in cold weather. He also said this bow due to knowing it was more a young teen sized bow age 10--15 for a first really good traditional hunting bow, the bow was made to have the string on for about 6--7 days, however with almost all of GREAT PLAINS TRADITIONAL BOW COMPANY bows you need to use a stringer due to how skinny the limbs and limb tips are as over 90% of people have damaged or fully broke a bow stringing it up without a stringer. The only bow type a stringer is not needed with this is the ones using the G4 in the bow riser and bamboo, carbon fiber, and fiberglass only for limbs. These bows are easier then most to damage without using a stringer. Luckly I have a Longbow one that works for both bows and my Recurve came with a strap made for recurve bows.

Sounds like you have your bows dialed in well. Yep I love dacron strings. And I always ise a bow stringer too. It's just easy and works perfect. Even on my longbows
@caseysmith544
@caseysmith544 Год назад
@@SamkoTradBow I use one anyhow as it hurts my shin to do the leg method, the only non stringing method I can do just based on my small size. I have to have these brace heights, or I get a bad bow slap, even with arm bent. However, I still run with an arm guard at times.
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow Год назад
@Casey smith nothing wrong with any of that. And I have the same issue trying to string my longbow with the push pull method. It's hard as a short guy. I can do it and practice it so if I need to in the field I can. But I'd rather use a stringer.

Hey Jason thanks for the informative videos! You are helping me out a lot. I currently have a Samick Sage and want to get into the longbow world. I would like to go ASL but want to see if I like longbow's before I make a big purchase. Do you think the Bear Montana with it's slight reflex limbs is close to a hill style bow in terms of feel and shootability? Thank you again!

Hi Is 14 strands good for long bow?
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 11 месяцев назад
Depends on the material and bow weight. I use b55 dacron and make my strand 16 for my 57 pound bow.
@Vlogl8fe
@Vlogl8fe 11 месяцев назад
Mine is the same material I like 16 strands too but the long bow I'm getting comes with a 14string im too lazy to drive for a custom one but imma see how 14 string does its meant for the bow . Hey I recommend you bow hunt in wisconsin really beautiful I don't think it's too expensive for first time buyers great for bow hunting deer.

No idea. And it might only be me and my style. But skinny strings do not work for me at all
@bedsheetmonkey

I imagine it’s because they move faster, so they move passed a touch further than a thicker string, enough to hit your arm.
