Just to clarify to anyone who is going to comment about tap water in Finland, I wasn’t scared to use the tap because I didn’t want to drink the water, I never buy bottled water, I was scared to use it cause there was a leak from it the day before, I guess I forgot to re-explain it in this video for anyone who didn’t watch the last one 😊

After you befriend a Finn you should ask them to join you to go to a supermarket to help you find all that you need. Almost all Finns know English and would be able you help you, just ask them. We usually don't offer ourselves to do such things, but are mostly happy to help if asked.

All the food packages usually have the ingredients listed at least in three languages: Finnish, Swedish and English. So next time you're at a supermarket, just pick up a product of the shelf, turn it around and read in English what it contains.
@herrakaarme
@herrakaarme Год назад
That's not correct. They all have Finnish and Swedish. Any extra languages in addition to these two are random, and might be there or might not be there. If there are extra languages, besides FI and SE, it's not necessarily always English, either. It could be the other Nordic languages (Danish, Norwegian), it could be German, it could be Estonian, it could be Russian, or something else, or all of them. The only static are Finnish and Swedish. Swedish could only be missing from some peculiar, limited products by local, probably one-person businesses.

Welcome! I'm travelling from Turku to Rovaniemi for christmas myself to spend the holidays with the family. You might notice a lot of tourists there at this time of the year. If you want cheap groceries, I suggest shopping at Lidl, but iirc there isnt one near the centre so you'd probably need a car to do that. Enjoy the tap water, get your hands on a phone plan/prepaid for unlimited data and great coverage (shouldnt cost you more than 20-30€ for a month). That Chinese restaurant you mentioned is imo the best in town, at least the stir fry noodles are great. Also that small grill "scan burger" in front of mcd is imo better than mcd. There are a couple restaurants there that do high end Finnish food, which is a bit expensive, but worth it if you want to try exotic stuff like reindeer etc. There are probably places that do ordinary Finnish food for cheaper though. If you like fish, you need to try fish soup or kalakeitto, its one of the best food during the cold months.
@ChelseaAddams
@ChelseaAddams Год назад
Ahh yeah unfortunately Lidl is a little bit far for me, but I’m doing ok with what is in the area! Yes I know the tap water is safe, I was worried to use it cause I had a leak from it the day before 😂 and yes I went to the Chinese restaurant! I’m actually vegan so there weren’t too many choices with the buffet for me, but maybe I’ll go back and try something from the menu! Okay good to know, there are a few places I want to try, but being vegan I’m not sure how much traditional Finnish food I’ll be able to try, I’ve tried a couple of things already/vegan versions of Finnish meals which have all been very nice!

@@ChelseaAddams Yeah, Tampere is an awesome city and actually I've read that lot of Finns would like to move to this area (Pirkanmaa) if they would have to, or if they could move to some place else. It's the best area to live in Finland, if you ask me. I lived in Helsinki for a couple of years and I wouldn't want to go back 😄 Tampere is the most populous inland city in the Nordic countries with a population of 240 000 and including the urban area a total of 340 000. Dubbed as the "Manchester of the North" for its industrial past as the former center of Finnish industry and that's why it's nicknamed as "Manse". Tampere is also THE sauna capital, because it has the most public saunas in the world. Helsinki is always a great place to visit once in a while, but I wouldn't want to live there, not anymore. Tampere is a smaller city and also because of that, also the mentality is a bit different. And I like it 🙂 Good to hear you've already become at least somewhat familiar with our language 😄 yeah I know it weird. But you know, even our 3-4 olds know how to speak Finnish, so it isn't that hard 😆
