This is inspiring. I have to watch it again (and again) because I think this could be a nice Hoek van Holland project.

Through the use of Java language APIs, the DAB system is now able to offer flexible and dynamic solutions for delivering exciting new content to mobile users. This article summarizes the potential offered by Java technology in the radio broadcasting environment, and concludes with a description of the Java DAB API framework, and the software architecture of the Java DAB platform.

What a great video! I wonder, what are the licencing requirements to (legally) operate a DAB+ transmitter? I know that very low power FM transmitters are/were available without a license for use in a car, so maybe this falls into the same category?

Awesome video! A lot of information squeezed into just a couple of minutes. What sort of range are you getting with this setup? Just in and around the house I presume?
@NickBouwhuis
@NickBouwhuis 3 года назад
Glad you liked it! For legal reasons, I kept the transmit power very low. The signal doesn't leave the room I'm in.

is there also an emegency type/flag one could render? so for example..if someone would want (with authorization) send out an emergency broadcast with "the purge" siren? :D
@NickBouwhuis
@NickBouwhuis 3 года назад
There is, although I don't think it's supported by ODR. The magical search term is "EWF" or "Emergency Warning Functionality".

Hy,is it a simplex transmission ? Can we broadcasted 10 radios in simulcast ? Please

Yes. Check my examples in the description. There is one with multiple stations and I also explain it in the video.

I almost did it, but I have three problems: 1. when I run "SoapySDRUtil --find" it says: [ERROR] hackrf_init() failed -- Other error [ERROR] avahi_client_new() failed: Daemon not running SoapySDRUtil: client.c:785: avahi_client_get_state: Assertion `client' failed. Aborted (core dumped) 2. when I run "sudo odr-dabmux dabmux.mux", it says that it is unable to download TAI bulletin 3. when I run "Sudo apt install soapysdr-utils", it says "unable to locate package soapysdr-utils" I hope somebody can help me.

Great Video! I have two questions: 1. Is it possible to have more than one multiplexer? 2. Does it work with Windows too? I hope somebody can help me
@NickBouwhuis
@NickBouwhuis 3 года назад
Thanks for the compliment. Glad you liked it! I'm going to try answering your questions 1. If you have multiple transmitters, you could theoretically run two multiplexers from one computer. I wouldn't recommend it though. Wondering what your use case is? Maybe the problem can be solved some other way, 2. The software is made for Linux, but you may be able to make it work with WSL. I'd recommend an VM though. A Raspberry Pi would also work.

How many radio stations can be in a multiplex?
@derseimen2250
@derseimen2250 3 года назад
At my first question i meant Multiplex, not Multiplexer (it's not the same, is it?). Sorry.

depends on the selected bitrate , with a 88k bitrate you can put more than 10 channels in a dab ensemble,

Does it work with HackRF One? How do you amplify the signal to get 10km coverage?
@NickBouwhuis
@NickBouwhuis 3 года назад
Yes. The vide is centered about the HackRF One. I'm not an expert on radio amplification. But you'd need some serious hardware for that. I would recommend checking out the OpenDigitalRadio wiki. There are some case studies on there of people that are running ODR in production.

@NickBouwhuis

Thank you! That means a lot! What do you mean exactly? A VM image? Try it out on Ubuntu 20.04. The dependencies you need are in the description. Let me know where you get stuck exactly and I'll do my best to help.

Hi Nick, Thank you very much for your video on DAB+ transmitter. Unfortunately you are explaining everything very fast & I am having a lot of trouble understanding what you are doing, also you are speeding through the images very fast & you don't give people enough time see the transmitter & software. This video should go for 25 min minimum
@NickBouwhuis

The video wasn't really meant as a step-by-step guide, but rather show you that it is possible and (roughtly) what steps you need to take. Check the link in the description to a blog with step-by-step instructions.

im following the steps from godfrey ls blogpost only thing not working for me is soapysdr, is that needed if i have an hackrf or only needed for limesdr?
@NickBouwhuis

You need SoapySDR either way. It’s the program that bridges the gap between odr-dabmod and the transmitter

I tried to follow this video and used a VM with ubuntu-20.04.2.0 followed your and Godfrey's blogposts. Sometimes i needed to exchange ./bootstrap by ./bootstrap.sh and soapysdrUtils seems to be soapysdr_tools meanwhile.
