I've tried a lot of gamesmanship tactics to throw off my opponent. Never thought of fruitcake. That's why Seve was one of the greatest.

Seve used to cough when he was nervous or not confident. Even before a t shot on a par 3 and wasn’t sure or asking the caddy and not very sure he used to cough before his own shot.

The commentary is so dramatic, you would think Seve had murdered someone and zipped them up in his golf bag.

He must have gotten some stuck in his throat, back in '86 at the final round of the Masters, on the fifteenth hole, when he pulled that four iron into the pond; or maybe it was Jack, finishing with a thirty on the back side, to win.

It was in Seve's benefit to give Nick the putt. When you are given a putt (especially a tester) it implies that you may miss. That tiny bit of doubt carries over. In the old days of match play, golfers were always pulling this "gimmie" strategy to create doubt and get into their opponents heads.

Golf is a game of achieving honor not just a victory 😌

Only the 7th or 8th time he’s coughed on a backswing. Lol. Tom Watson and the Americans carried cough drops during Ryder cup events, not that it did any good.

I attended about 30 professional events, eight majors. In those 120 rounds and countless shots, i only saw one man cheat, Seve. 1st hole at Augusta in Seve's first appearance. I was there.

Seve was famous for coughing and playing with the velcro on his glove while others were hitting. His gamesmanship antics are legendary. I know he was some kind of god to the Euros but, frankly, I could never stand the man.

Spare me lionizing Seve . . . I was at Augusta during Seve's first competitive round. On the first hole, he pushed his drive 10 yards past the fairway bunker, but, 35 yards right of the bunker, deep in the trees. He stalked out to the fairway and then came back and looked at his ball right up against a tree. No real option other than returning to the tee and hitting his third shot. Did that happen? No. Seve proceeded to badger first a Marshall, later a Rules Official all with very broken language. What he was contending was the camera tower on the right side of #1 green was in his line of play and he was entitled to relief. What a joke. Both the Marshall and R O told him "No". He pretended he didn't understand and proceeded to take a free drop and went on to par the hole. Also, Tom Watson, playing partner, well-known self-righteous rules/etiquette enforcer (ask McCord or Player), FAILED to come over and weigh in on the dispute to 'protect the field'. I was there. Seve was a disgrace to the game.

Not a fan of stuff like this, really hope it was unintentional.

I love how fans clapped after Seve’s terrible etiquette was allowed and rewarded. Seemed like a comedic sketch at that point.

Seve Ballesteros was one of the biggest frauds and cheaters in pro golf....and there are plenty of other stories similar to this one. If he had any spirit of the game at all, he would have given Nick Price the putt. The fact that Price made the putt doesn't diminish the unsportsmanlike conduct of Ballesteros. Not quite as bad as Sergio spitting in the holes...but close. These ppl are uncouth.

The whole thing would have been worth it had it ended with "that's just what happened on the course, later that night Seve got battered and ended up running around the putting green with his pants down and fell on one of those little flags and it penetrated him"

Does this "top caddy" understand matchplay much less, competition at all? What are you saying by giving Price that putt? You can't be a nice guy and expect to win. Doesn't matter how it happened. Giving Price the putt would consummate a show of weakness all around. Bad enough Seve made a mistake, and unfortunate as it is, you don't make concessions on that level or any level of golf
