MY NEXT VOCAL HARMONY LESSON IS UP! Another Eagles song, Take It Easy! A little longer, as it's a lot more complex than this, but still fun! Check it out! :D ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cWnzG9YN92U.html

@@coletumey8077 agreed - @Kevin Todd please release this newer version - i get that you have an original cover (~6 years ago), but you you clearly worked hard on this one ... seems silly not to share. P.S. 5:48 - surprised you liked Home Free's cover, as they kinda fail your tip 4 imo. They're too 'perfect' (likely thanks in part to an over-abundance of auto-tune), and it sounds kinda alien because of it. Is that why you didn't share this 2nd cover?

You are correct in saying five different singers would usually produce a more exciting sound, but I have to say in this case if you had done all the voices on the record, it would still have been a hit! You did an amazing job on these harmonies!!! Thanks for sharing your talent. Taking nothing away from the Eagles who did a fantastic cover and made it famous, the arrangement and harmonies are from Ian Matthews and Mike Nesmith. SBR was a cut on Matthews' 1973 album Valley Hi with Nesmith as producer, instrumentalist and singing harmony. My favorite version is a live performance by Ricochet. The audio is horrible but you can still hear their artistry. Great tutorial! What do you mean by the word 'mask' in 'projecting from your mask' ?
@KevinToddMusic
@KevinToddMusic 3 года назад
Thanks so much Rodney! Awesome question; pretty tricky to explain, but I'll give it a shot! The best way I can describe it is by singing as if the source of the sound is created and coming from the front of your face/nose area (i.e. where a mask would be worn, no relation to COVID). Similar to how you can "breath into your stomach or chest," but in reverse. When you are singing, try playing around with where you're imagining the sound source to come from; try your chest, throat, mast, head, etc. Even with just being mindful of this, it will still cause the sound and tone to be projected differently, with the higher physically in your body that you are projecting from, the brighter, thinner, and more trebly the sound. Projecting from your mask should be a very bright, loud projection with a strong mid-high to high range, but with hardly any bass support, perfect for high vocals that need to cut through a mix without too much 'grit' so to speak (i.e. the bridge of this song!) Hope this helps! Thanks again for listening and be sure to check out the lesson I just posted for Take It Easy! :)

Dude, your breakdowns are amazing! I've been scratching my head at how to figure out these songs and you've made it so easy! Is there an e-mail or preferred method where I could contact you?

Awesome mentoring and teaching video! THANK YOU!! Just one thing, can you also teach each of their singing styles? I think the bass is too low for you, but not for me. lol

Haha thank you so much for the kind words and feedback; you’re absolutely right in that the bass is WAYYYYY too low for me (thank GOD for autotune 😂). But definitely next Eagles analysis I can talk more on their specific style of singing 😊

TheWayneReport - If you want to take a music class, you will be better able to pick out the notes for the harmonies.. Even better, get to learn how to read music, and then it all comes together so much better.. Even perhaps joining the Church Choir where you go, will be a great way to learn how the 4 parts, soprano, alto, tenor, and bass, fit.. I love to sing too ! Been doing it all my life..

Great video Kevin. Great to have a lot more just like it. Just a note about who in the Eagles does certain parts. The ones you listed are not in the Eagles at the same time. Also doesn't Don Felder do a part? Doesn't really matter - we get your point. How about more Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young songs?

Thanks so much William for the kind words and feedback, I really appreciate it! 😃 I have a couple more up since here and am definitely gonna be making more as I settle into my new job (and absolutely some CSNY are on the to-do list). For the part names, I used the names of those in the band at the time of the recording (1980), however, you’re absolutely right in the fact that they started performing this song before this exact lineup!

Do you think excessive or addition of vibratos in every voice creates that…hypnotizing drone (along with multiple voices)?
