Oh god; 30 seconds in and you’re already 10 years behind. Cops doing cqb and trying to teach it makes me puke.

What is modern tactics to you then?

@@HRTTacticalGear I mean, I don’t have the time to teach you CQB over text. What I see is incorrect assumption, old and tired points of domination, I mean white side SOF has been doing step center shoot center since at-least 2010, maybe 2009 if I remember correctly, who knows on the other side of the fence. Using the wall as cover is about as antiquated as it gets. We haven’t stacked on exterior or interior walls since 2015 or before in SOF. You assertion about “hands and waists” is incorrect. Again, SOF has been doing surgical strike forever. As an operator I couldn’t shoot unarmed people. Only one time, in 2003 was I given an ROE that authorized to kill anyone within 50 meters. In 2016 as a GFC fighting ISIS I had to have a weapon in hand and hostile intent to kill and that was with OFS authorities. Never in my career did we teach or allow clearing rooms down sights. Now if you see some regular army/marines doing it, it was because they didn’t know any better. It takes time for CQB to go from SOF to conventional / cops. In 2004 I was part of training a major metropolitan swat force. We were sharing some ttp/sof with them as a good will / rapport building exercise. They were about 10 years behind 2004. They were doing West Hollywood shootout lessons learned. The problem is, police are not operators. Swat is untrained because frankly, cities can’t afford operators. They can’t afford the ammo, training hours and infrastructure. So swat guys and cops go to these 1-2 week cool/guy schools that teach them enough to be dangerous and nothing more. They get filled with hubris thinking they have skills; but they don’t put in the time. 10,000 rounds in a shoot per year keeps you in a maintaince mode. Another 20,000 on the flat range to build that muscle memory. BUT you have to be training it right. Instead you do dry runs, blue barrel (sim rounds or such). You limit live fire shoot houses to a minimum, I know agencies that do zero for example. Your tactics are old and tired. The proof is in the results of your raids. When a criminal decides to put up resistance you almost always get multiple officers shot / killed. The majority of criminal shooters take their own life long before a swat officer does. Frankly, and to put it bluntly, there should be maybe 1 swat team for every 2 million residents +\- only once in a blue moon does swat actually improve the outcome. Now that’s not a hit in swat per se. That is more of a structural reality. The reality is swat/hrt/esu primary purpose should be school shooter / active shooter response. Nothing else. No warrants or any of that crap. All of that should be cordon training (volume of officers) and call-outs. All the other crap, swat is just not up to par on. One final note. And this is not to be personally cruel. If you are teaching gun fighting A) you need to have been in atleast 3 gunfights. The 1st one you survived. The 2nd one you fought and the 3rd one you learned. B) you have to be physically fit - you can’t be out of shape. If you have over 12% body fat and you aren’t on an actual work-out plan developed for your job that you are doing 6 days a week in the gym/track/ect then you are already behind the curve. I can’t take a fat body serious when they are talking about fighting. Again, not to be personal; if you are retired and passing on some info-great. But that leads to point 3 - if you have been out of the game for awhile and you aren’t shooting 20k rounds a year +++ then you shouldn’t be instructing cqb. CQB is the highest risk skill there is. Period. Without exception. And only the best, current, experienced people should be teaching it. And finally. All of that training means nothing if not done with your team, constantly. Individual skills mean next to nothing. Your team is only as capable as your worst guy. That is not some cliche or poster. That’s operational reality. If your fattest dude can’t run 5 miles in 36 minutes, then you can’t get your team to an objective at a certain time. If your weakest guy can’t do a pull-up in full kit then you aren’t getting over a 10 foot wall without carrying ladders and crap (slowing you down). Swat is too easy, selection criteria is too low for the job. Period. So in the end you have a bunch of poorly skillled guys with guns running around being tasked with jobs they lack the capacity to do. The only thing that saves you is that when you screw up you get to blame it on the criminal. No one is coming back and blaming the dead cop for his failure. So swat gets to go on failing upward.
