It's based on if the one telling the objective truth knows they're lying. Escanor is so prideful he truly truthfully believes he's above all else. His walk towards Estarossa is another one where his "Pride" wins out.

I just realized something. When they said "It's hot" it's not the weather or daylight. It was Escanor lying there and literally radiating radioactive radiation heatwaves. That's why they said he incinerate everything with his mere presence. The dude is walking sun.
