I'm 71 y.o., and we gave our pets dog and cat our leftovers. My mother cooked all our meals from scratch. She was a really good cook too. The pets didn't get diabetes, cancers, etc. like today. Also, our pets were indoor/outdoor and would occasionally dine on a small critter. We need to go back to a common sense lifestyle! God Bless❤

I completely agree with you! For all people and our pets. It used to be unheard of for pets to become diabetic or have cancer. Also the allergies are rampant for people and pets. It's got to be in kibble, some people processed foods, etc. ☺️ God bless you and your pet and stay healthy and happy. 🥰🙏✝️

Our Corgis love all the foods you mentioned except chicken hearts. I'll have to try that for them. But instead of yogurt, we give them a couple tablespoons of kefir every morning with half a hard boiled egg and a handful of blueberries. In watching a video on how to make kefir, they mentioned that a small amount of kefir was good for dogs every day. I believe it has similar benefits to yogurt.

No kibble for my dogs. My older dog got kibble for the first 2 years of his life (he's 14..5 years old). He eats anything I throw at him. Our young dog was raised on raw meat diet from the day we got her. She does not like veggies, she watches the older dog eat it and then she plays with the veggies, throws them around, later he would clean up after her. He also likes my home made Sauerkraut. That surprised me. They get an egg every day with their meat. Chicken hearts, and beef heart is on their menu often. They get Greek yoghurt whenever I'm having it (plain, no sugar). They like plain kefir too.

I make a combo pot of all these ingredients and add it to my dogs kibble daily. Also don't forget red bell peppers, ground flax seeds, and herbs like oregano, parsley, tumeric, ginger, etc. Started this routine with my dogs about 6 years ago. My 80 lb. goldendoodle still going strong at age 14.

I make my own greek yogurt and kefir. My dogs really love it. Also every year I get zucchinis and pumpkins and chop them up and freeze them so the pups can enjoy it all year round. I have two gripes but this is all very good information. Be sure that your apples and other fruit/veg aren't treated with Apeel or other wax coatings. Get organic to avoid those things that could be harmful to a pet since they are smaller than humans (well, most dogs, anyway!) The other thing is to beware of lactose in yogurt. Most animals are lactose intolerant, including dogs and cats. If your dog or cat gets diarrhea after eating yogurt, they are likely lactose intolerant. Otherwise, I highly recommend cooking your pet food at home! There is no kibble allowed in my house. Here's the recipe I use for my dog: 4 whole, pasture raised eggs 2 chicken breasts and 2 chicken thighs cooked in a crock pot then chopped up together 1/2 cup Frozen peas and carrots This makes about 4-5 days of meals for a 15lb dog. I add 1 tablespoon of pumpkin puree on the side each meal. I'm going to add chicken hearts to his meals now. :)

I know I’ve heard Dr. Jones say before in another video that kale and spinach are great veggies to add. For me personally with my dog, I choose those over peas. I love to hear that other people cook for their dogs too. Blessings and longevity to your fur babies. 😊
@adyarym
@adyarym 14 дней назад
And how many spoonfuls you give them in how many meals a day? I am considering that for the stray cats I cared for. Weight is different in each of them but I can calculate the amount based on the heavier one that must be around 12 or 13 pounds if not more… The skinnier one and the last to arrived eats like a tiger and then clean all the other plates. I will serve based on what you do. TY for sharing!!! ❤
@LilyBean82
@LilyBean82 14 дней назад
@@adyarym My dog has one dinner per day, but he gets chicken breast treats for breakfast and lunch. Just plain chicken breast nothing added to it. For cats, I would omit the peas and carrots because they are obligate carnivores and can only tolerate a small amount of veg which strays will get when they catch mice and birds (they have grass, grains, etc in their stomach). For an 8lb cat, this recipe can go a long way. I would offer them 1 cup each. For the hulk 13lb cat, I'd offer 1 1/2 cups. For kitties, you might also consider adding salmon oil to their meals for added nutrition. Others are welcome to chime in on what amounts they think would be appropriate for cats since I'm not an expert, just a person who likes to cook for animals!

We raise chickens, so I've been giving my cats and dogs one raw egg a day for more than 20 years. Such a simple efficient, inexpensive, easy and effective way to get protein and cholesterol into our animals! 🐕🐈🐈‍⬛🐩 Your animals will have rich, subtle fur, no dry or itchy skin, clear eyes, etc. Plus I whole-heartedly agree with all the other recommendations here as well. I recommend substituting fresh cooked pumpkin for the canned stuff. 🎃 Thank you, Dr.

@@lucyj7688 Hi Lucy, In my opinion, fresh raw eggs are not dangerous. Here in Italy, people eat them every day too. Frozen sardines are usually cheaper than canned, and then you don't have the canned pollution. Both the pollution that a can gives of to the food and the pollution that gives a can to nature.

Been cooking for my cocker and all my dogs. Everything mentioned I actually use. I gmake pasta and chickpea pasta which good for dogs as well. I make Flatbread from cauliflower and joghurt . Dogs love them. Pumpkin seeds and peanuts and organic peanut butter. Just be careful with yeast. Dogs can have allergic reactions with yeast on their skin. If so, use pure aloe with coconut oil, will dissappear almost instantly. Dogs are much happier with human food and organic healing. Much much healthier. Thank you Doc, you are truly amazing.

I bred Boxers for nearly 40 years and they had very little processed foods. I raised them all ages, including weaning pups, on mostly raw and cooked human grade meats , veggies , grains etc They ate apples every day as I owned an orchard and they ran for miles with the miniature horses and sheep, and swam nearly all year round. I never saw fleas and the only time they ever saw a vet was innoculations (and I always Titer tested them first) and the odd accident or c section. Most of them lived long and healthy lives. I now have Frenchies and they eat the same way. I am a big believer , you are what you eat! Sadly most vets in New Zealand push kibble onto the pet owners and say people cant do a balanced diet for dogs! What on earth do they think dogs ate long before commercial food!

Dr J, have you ever treated a dog with lymphocytic plasmacytic stomatitis? It’s apparently pretty rare ( usually in cats) There’s not much literature out there. The drs who have treated it have discovered that a combination of Clindamycin and steroids seem to help get it into a remission stage. While we were treating our dog for this,he developed pancreatitis so we had to stop treatment temporarily. He recovered from the pancreatitis, but now the mouth disorder is bad again. Our vet is fantastic and has done research on his own to help me instead of having to go to a dentist specialist who probably doesn’t know anymore than he does. If you have any experience, I would love to hear about it. Of course we also are now on low fat, homemade diet because of the pancreatitis.🤦‍♀️

Very confirming! We give a variety of everything except the chicken hearts and pumpkin seeds, but we’ll start adding those into the rotation. Our large breed rescue pups have always had their diets supplemented with fresh fruit and veggies. They have all lived long happy lives. Even our first Labrador who had a very rough start without adequate food and shelter and developed issues because of it lived until just weeks shy of 14.

I watch my niece’s dog whenever they go out of town. He hates fruit but loves vegetables. Mostly steamed green beans, roasted carrots, raw cucumber, and raw red cabbage. Of course I limit the amount I gave him and also make sure that it has no salt or other seasonings on it.

Such a helpful vid!!! He mentions salmon. My dogs LOVE it! But be sure to put it in a different container, in the fridge, after opening the can. Just to change up their diet, a pinch, some days I give red eye socket canned salmon, which is the highest protein (but adjust the kibble less), a sardine, w brown rice & quinoa, 1 teaspoon minced raw carrot, topped with a teaspoon plain cottage cheese. They love raw carrot chips at snack-O-clock too. But now imma add minced raw apples too & sliced apple chips at snack time. THANK YOU, thank you, for this awesome, helpful vid!!!(Keri, Boston MA) 😊
