my older brother showed me this band when i was in middle school. he was murdered at 25 back in october. i know you're finally at peace. RIP Dan. and thanks for showing me the music that gets me through your loss..
Sorry for your loss of your brother. I lost mine on 11/1/21. He took his own life. Trust me when I say I feel your pain. We used to listen to this back when we were in high school in the late 90’s. I think more than likely introduced this song to him. Anyways, this whole album is great if you get a chance to listen. Songs like Devilboy and Rodrigo that didn’t get as much acclaim. The thought of my brother brought me here as well. Chin up and do the best you can to support your family. And may they support you as well. Fear not, there is an afterlife.
Did he past away?....awww I hear him singing...damn I remember hearing this..hard song..that's why I come home and lock the doors and not get blamed for anything.
There are bands that still play this kind of music, but they are in small bars, and they are being ignored by the major labels. The labels still have alot of control, an online presence only get u so far. I am not sure why the labels refuse to promote mainstream rock, but they do, and they shall fade into the night because of it.
My best friend and I had a band and we did this song, Cumbersome, and My My live all the time, even when we were just an acoustic duo. We grew up with this shit.(I'm 47). He died last year. His voice was on par with Jason's...he sounded very close to him and was loud as fuck. Everytime we did any of them people were were rocked so hard that they would be a bit stunned, and then they'd give super applause for his vocals. It gives me joy that all you here on the comments dig 7M3 and other music of this era like we did/do. I fucking wish he was still here, I swear I'd set up a Livestream and we'd to do all 3 of them for you all as hard as we can.
@@jacquelinezonneville1427 Thanks for asking! I should have way more stuff, it's a tragedy - but every damn time we tried to get video or audio quality from a show, or even an informal jam session or open mic, something seemed to get f'd up and the quality sucked. I do have some stuff though. Here is a Dropbox link to our first little 3-song demo we did way back in 2000. Hard to believe it's been 20 years, holy shit. 7M3's My My is on there, and also Machine Head & I'm Eighteen (Creed style). See what you think :) And plz be kind, we had never recorded anything in our lives until that, LOL. I'll also try to find some other 7M3 recordings, maybe even a couple videos. www.dropbox.com/sh/pmrod3hq4b9s5co/AAAa_BG9b4OxuwoVv_84-J6Na?dl=0
It makes me wonder if he really did see something like this...He sounds so heartbroken & angry... very sad song but he had 1 of the best beautifuliest voices I've ever heard... I would've listen to him sing the phone book... He puts so much ❤ in his music...or did... the band is great as well
From what I've read it's not based on any personal experience of his. Might be based on a movie called River's Edge, which is itself based loosely on a real incident. Yeah, that last line though, "I shoulda done... something..." you feel his regret and guilt.
When the Seattle sound spread across the country and became mainstream the radio was filled with great songs from Alternative bands from coast to coast...as a child of the 60s I thought that rock had died in 1979 with the last great album of "the era"...Pink Floyds The Wall. But in the 90s rock came back with a vengence and these guys were in the thick of it.
Gary Ridgway did it, we know it now, I feel so much for the lives lost and my friends I beg to see y'all again as for whoever doesn't know Gary Ridgway just look it up
why can't 7m3 come out with a nothing-but-2-guitars album. Every fantastic video of theirs online is just the lead singer and guitarist blasting raw, unbridled emotion through their instruments. I would pay upwards of 50 bucks to have them just blast out their greatest hits, and more, with just those two playing. Cumbersome, Water's Edge, Southwestern State, blue letter, subway tunnel microphone and others - with just those two - would be priceless and worth hundreds IMHO.
What I really like about this song is it covers a subject that not many song have ever covered and it does it with power and passion. You can almost hear the fear and pain in the singers voice.
the moment I had the last argument with my ex wife, I literally walked out to my room to start packing my shit, and this song was playing. Put a smile on my face and I thought "how appropriate".
Seen these guys live front row center in Odessa Texas 12 years ago. That was one Hell of a night! You definitely should see Seven Mary Three live if you can. You won’t regret it.
gotta feel g00d AF to write songs that turn out 2be instant hits/classis & are still listened to / valued 20-30+ years later. Especially these lads , started the band in a garage & were truly home grown
I heard this song on the radio for the very first time today, was talking to my mom about how eerie it is, and she mentioned that a body was just found in the creek near her old high school. Oh, the irony and unsettling nature.
Where in the hell did you hear this song on a radio? Consider yourself lucky. Been listening to this since 96. Rock radio for all I know is nonexistent.
Ted, this is one of the best songs of the 90s. He's voice is great. The lyrics are great. It helps if you're smart enough to understand it. Don't knock what you don't understand. Lashing out doesn't work.
same here, the perfect age to experience music cuz the music you gain attatchment to at the age of 14 shown to have the greatest impact on you for the rest of life and given that all the music I discovered from 12-15 is still the music that gives me goosebumps or instantly puts me in a certain mood is all stuff from the mid 90s.
Always thought this song was so much better than Cumbersome. Also this song reminds of the song Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Warrant. Both songs are great with a story within the song
Was just introduced to this band on a Playlist that you tube put together for me. Just got one of their cd's today. I'm so obsessed with this band. Now I will try to collect all of their cd's. I was really missing out on some awesome music. This group was definitely under-rated. Can't believe that I just heard of them. What a talented band!
Not underrated at all so originally the band was from Virginia where they played in coffee shops but about 94-95 they were played all the time on the radio in Orlando and in Florida in general I guess wjrr pick the band up and sign them for their first official CD release I was young when that happened but I remember hearing them on the radio at least 10 times a day this song and cumbersome brings back great childhood memories so it just depended on where you were located they were huge in Florida and Virginia
Even though these guys didn't last, their music lives on. Whenever I hear a song of theirs playing on the radio, there isn't any urge to change the station. The 90's were a damn great decade for music.
@@quagmiremusic6250 thats a dumb statement, if you have ever smoked a cig before, it gives a relaxing buzz and bit of a high and its even better when combining it with other stuff
this is easily one of the best rock songs of the late 90's and that end part where he sings "i cant say a single word....about what i saw of herrr" classsic
My first year In grad school. When the M in MTV still stood for music. So glad Iam 41 and grew up in the 80's and 90's. The pre Internet times. Life was so much better. I feel bad for millennial's, they don't know any better.
the 70's were better. seemed like a lot fewer A-holes and more open land. so much better music playing on so many radio stations and free music. albums had artwork that didn't require a magnifying lens to see details. concerts didn't take months of work to buy the tickets, which you weren't forced to buy from ticket agencies (Ticket Master, Stub Hub) and all of the BS fees. camping overnight with your buddys to be 1st in line to buy the best tickets that you could afford was a rite of passage. and you knew they were the real deal and hanging onto them after the show allowed you bragging rights that you were there. screw downloading tickets and music, I want the ownership of the disc and not have to worry about a dead comp. and corrupted files. today's youth will never have those experiences and the memories that went w/ it
I loved it when they went to the Machine Shop in Flint, MI every year. Always would get tickets. They were past prime then, so tickets were dirt cheap. I used to see them for 10 or 12 bucks. Worth every fucking penny.
I go Machine Shop all the time and have been going for years since at least eaely 2000s but never saw 7 Maey 3 there. Would have liked to see them there back in the day.
**so I can sing along** "don't go there" I heard her say "you can't stomach what you're going to see" It's down there, by the water's edge wasted and bloated and waiting for someone else funny how, these things come about when you're tied to the teeth and mouth no sound of fury, no shot of pain there was no real reason, no gain I can't go down to the water's edge I didn't do it...I saw who did Don't go down to the water's edge they did it once and they can do it again it ain't no secret to me how she got there down by the stream I'd seen her the minute before the van pulled up and opened the door (took all my love) but I can't say a single word about what I saw of her her killers...they got their friends in familiar places, I tell you man this ain't no fucking game and I'm feeling so ashamed because I didn't do anything no I didn't do anything to stop this from happening I didn't do a thing I swear
I think I understand 95% of the words but why did they kill her what was the motive I didn't get that I think there could have been more imagery in the song but these guys are great how they write stuff sometimes things don't need to be so in your face but if anybody can get anything out of this more than I did why did they kill her???
He saw some things. Narrowly avoided the 27 club himself. This Era of music was telling truth on a level none but a few understand after all these years.
Met these guys at the fine line in minneapolis when i was 13, they hung out and ate food the bassist had me try ranch on my chicken wings for the 1st time ever ill never go back!!! Great band great guys
Seven Mary Three... The band that it seems few know of.. and yet, everything I've ever heard by them is amazing. I specifically love Rodrigo and Devil Boy. But this one is amazing too.
I watched them at North Georgia College in Dahlonega Ga with my brother-in-law. It was amazing and of last things I got to do with him, as he died as a result of a heart condition the next year and died. Rip Russell, you were a brother and friend.
@@jonathanburrows9542 Was it 98 or 99 when they were there? I was at the very front and I was afraid of getting smashed into the metal rail, so I kept pushing back and bumping into the girl behind me. Some guy kept yelling 'Sing black winged bird' He said it at least 30 times throughout the show.
@@cragre28 It would have had to have been 98, because I withdrew after the first semester that year and was not there in 99. Honestly, I thought it was 97. I remember they had a band named Trinket open for them. They tried really hard, but were pretty awful and did not have a favorable response from the crowd. I remember the singer twirling his index finger in the air during one of the songs and all of the sorority girls mocking him for it.
This reminds me an aweful lot of a song called "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Warrant. This song definately has a creepier feel and a more haunting video. Good stuff.
And her "killers" hide in plain sight. That's what makes this story so PRICELESS. Nothing is as it seems to whomever is being warned. Perfect way to wrap this up with a gorgeous bow. God bless My troops! Thank you for all of your dedication and hard work, for soooo many years. Thank you, especially, for making me one of your own. I feel SO PROUD to be in your 'club'. I'd be willing to bet not many people are aware of the military being intel and secret service. I'll just stop right here and let that simmer. May God bless you all.. and bring awareness, as well. ❤
moments when the bass guitar and drums play off one anothers action are great in this recording. also the general mood of purely woeful regret.. classic.
There is one feature of this song that is better than how it sums up the best of hard mid-90's Alternative rock, without having been a huge radio hit, and that's how this song isn't about love. How many songs tell a story that contains no trace of romance or bragging? These lyrics purely fit the emotions of the melody, and the rhythm gives emphasizes the urgency of the warning contained throughout. I bought this CD when it came out, and wasn't happy with it until I found this song. At first, I was upset that Cumbersome was the only one hit wonder song of this crappy CD, but then I heard this song, and I've never forgotten it.
What radio station? If they playing this, I'll start streaming the online because they have good taste! I'm in Chicago and even though there are several rock stations, they just play the same shit. I love GnR but I dont need to here Welcome to the Jungle again anytime soon, let alone 5x a day.
Great songs are ones with functioning harmony b/n the vocals and instrumentals, and that tells are story. Whether that story is bittersweet or horrific it makes no difference, as long as there's a story. This has all that and thus is a Great song. 7 mary 3. The other great 90's band.
