Ive done this twice in the last week, and could keep going back. Theres so many additional adventures besides the cliffs, cuckmere haven, the adjacent hills, beaches, friston forest etc all add up to give a really satisfying day out, and its so easy to find your way back to public transport connections. Its also fun and reassuring to see that those big slopes still take it out of people fitter than me haha. Pace yourself, take rests and it all balances out to be not too strenuous overall.

So pleased I had my feet up watching you all conquer this beautiful walk, one hike I tried many moons ago was along the North Downs called the "Hogs Back", it runs between Farnham and Guildford and not too far from your location Michelle. I'm currently in Chichester West Sussex not far from the South Downs and again miles of beautiful walking available along this range of hills by the South coast. 🍁

I have wanted to do this for the last 2 years and plan on doing it this year. I have watched so many videos and I have to say yours captured the hills' steepness. Quite more challenging than I had thought. Yikes!

I’m exhausted just watching yous completing that epic walk! Certainly not a gentle perambulation around a park, stopping to admire the view across the duck pond….you are certainly one for the “walking challenge”. I’ve been to Beachy Head and Eastbourne a few times and the view from a car seat window is fair to good - it’s my dislike of heights (even though my brain would tell me to walk even closer to the very edge!) that stops me from seeing the view whilst standing on the cliff itself! It’s a very long, bumpy and eventually wet way down to the bottom. Well done again! Another tale to tell the folks “back home” 😄 looking forward to your next instalment xxx

Hi Helen! Happy to have brought you along for the adventure. You are not alone in your fear of heights... as you may have guessed when my crew enthusiastically pointed out, ''we're not sitting near the edge, Michelle!'' There are certainly stretches of the walk that are less intense and provide for some epic views... especially the bit around Birling Gap. Definitely worth a day trip!

Just imagine how many millions of years of shellfish made that band of chalk. It stretches all the way to France. About ten thousand years ago, the sea washed some of it away, thereby creating the largest island of of the British Isles.

England has (or is about to have) the world’s longest coastal path - I’ve always fancied the South West coastal path or perhaps the Western bit of Alfred Wainwrights' coast to coast walk (St Bees Head to Robin Hood's bay) - I’d skip the North York Moors and instead do a stretch from Staithes and or Robin Hood's bay to Whitby.

Am thinking you would like a day out on Mount Snowdon. Not somewhere you can easily get to by train so would need to be well planned. Depending on which path up you take 4 hours up, 3 hours down. The Llanberis path is the easiest, but longest, Pyg track shortest but steepest, Rhyd Ddu path has the best views out over Cardigan Bay, Llyn Peninsula and the Menai Straights. Do not take or google Crib Goch path .

The quality of your photography and narration was amazing. This is the first time I have seen that view from the top, so thank you, and I am 76. When you think that the chalk was laid down millions of years ago in a tropical sea, your mind boggles. Charmouth beach and Lyme Regis in Dorset are two good places to go. They are on the Jurassic coast with fossils to be found for the patient hunter. Lyme Regis in particular is charming if a bit hilly, even to the shops.

Well done! For me Beachy Head will always be remembered for Jimmy riding the Ace Face's Vespa off the cliff at the end of Quadrophenia. Well worth watching if you're having a movie night as it shows British youth culture of the 1960s and it has a kicking soundtrack by the Who. As far as hiking goes, you're asking the wrong guy I'm afraid.

Gonna suggest a circular walk from Tring station along the Neolithic Ridgeway Path to Ivinghoe beacon (through the trees at Aldbury Nowers and then across the barren Pitstone hill - check out England's oldest post windmill in the distance and then back through Ashridge forest to the Bridgewater monument (stopping for a cuppa at the cafe), then all downhill to the picture perfect village of Aldbury (dinner & drink in the Greyhound Inn) - and 5-minute taxi ride back to the station. Tring is about 40 mins out of Euston station in North London.

@AndyKing1963
@AndyKing1963 2 года назад
@@ACanadianAbroadMichelle tried and tested, I was originally going to mention checking out the pub in Aldbury, but several people have said it's not as good as it once was, which is a shame. If you need a map of the route or have any questions, gimme a shout. Also (top tip) if you do the walk, make a note of the taxi rank phone number at Tring station before you end up in Aldbury - it's only a short walk across fields back to the station from Aldbury, but your feet will thank you if you get a taxi ;)

Speaking as someone who has spent forty years fell walking and doing long distance walks it's really good seeing our commonwealth cousins enjoying the English countryside. However, southern hills are hardly climbs at all. You should come to the Lake district for a proper days waking. To avoid warm water on hot days buy an insulated water bottle, fillit with water form the fridge and add ice cubes.

Glad you enjoyed coming along for the ride! I am a MAJOR fan of YETI (generally every product they make #sponsorme! LOL), so I will admit that I had perfectly cool water the entire walk, unlike my counterparts. While I was living in British Columbia, I dragged myself up a mountain or two and I would LOVE to visit the Lake or Peak District for some epic walks! Hiking has to be one of my favourite activities - always feel accomplished at the end.
