Previously recorded in 1986/ made famous by Willie Nelson and Ray Charles, and written by Eddie Setser and Troy Seals. This is not Elvis, but Dough Church singing both voices. He has done a great job on this soundtrack, better than Willie and Ray! Elvis left us too early, in 1977, and this song was written in 1985
I would have to say I heard this Song every day for 4 months starting in Jan 1985. I was in Basic Training at Fort Knox and it played every morning for breakfast in the Chow Hall. I almost knew the words to it and I was a Heavy Metal guy. lol
I don't know who is singing this version. It is certainly not Elvis although the voice is very "Elvis" It is a beautiful version of this wonderful son.
It was a miracle when she knew the gun was empty and she couldn't win but her final prayer was answered when the riffles fired again...so much to learn!!
When the lyrics say “and her final prayer was answered” it meant about that she couldn’t live without her man. And the rifles shooting again were from the other side
This song is very special to me:( my uncle Sid died in February and this song was played at his funeral and now every time I hear this song it makes me cry like a baby:(
Hi Bingoorla, This is Elvis for sure. I don't remember hearing it in the 60s or 70s. I am sure it is worth to do some research on it, at least for Elvis history. For all the Elvis lovers...another example for what was lost in 77..
soy latino no se mucho ingles pero esta es una cancion hermosisima que no pasa de moda, que buena composicion la oigo una y otra vez y no me canso de escucharla.
this is my first time to hear this song. i am amazed that, as if it was been created for me.i can see my life in it, i feel my life is revolving in it.its hard to be living in the barrel of a gun.one thing is for sure that after the smoke cleared, somebody is gonna take you home.
This song is goes for my good buddy Rip Kendall Fowler whom recently committed suicide. This song also played at his memorial service and I shedded few tears but I will always cherish the memories I had with Kendall Fowler. I will always miss you and love you. Amen. 😢
Yes....It is Doug Church. He is one of the top Elvis impersonators. He did both voices, Elvis and Willie. I preferred him doing Willie, strangely enough. I checked him out on Google. There is quite a lot about him. I really like this version of the song.
This is my Grandpa's favorite song. I love this song so much and I want it to be played when everyone tells me goodbye. I don't know what I'm going to do when my Pop Pop goes to Heaven. I will always remember him when I hear this song, I know that.
I prefer this version as it is sung solo. One of the greatest compliments for this song is that when I sing it at karaoke the punters listen to it (I'm female). Great video too.
My dad left the church to this song 15 years ago and when i lost me mum 3 weeks ago i couldnt think of a better song for my mum to leave the church too, they both loved this song Its a great song!!!!
Interesting speculation I see......fantastic song regardless but I really think it could be Elvis and Willie or another great singer ( impressionist ) Mike Walker who, if you peeps like this, ought to check him out. He does Ray, Elvis and many iothers who, if you close your eyes, you woulod believe it`s the original.
This is not Willy Nelson and Ray Charles. Compare their version on You tube. The voices are different. . This is beautifully done. video. I'm surprised bingooria the uploader didnt credit the singers.
i like this version as well as or better than nelson and ray charles. no offense but this man singing has a beautiful vocie and does this song justice.
Come on Bingorria (uploader),tell us who's singing. We know fromtheir you tubeclip its not willie andRay,nor is it Elvis's voice.. SOWHO IS IT1. EVERYBODY.....SO WHO IS IT !!!(iAM GETTING TIRED OF THE REPEAT GUESSES EVERY MONTH).
@jacmeade Yes, I still mean that this is a great song , better than Willie and Ray. I wrote what I mean, like you did. Dough Church has done a fantastic imitation! I`m not a big fan of Ray, but like listen to Willie
Thank you for uploading this. I still remember this one as another song my grandfather sang to me as a kid like Wildfire by Martin Michael Murphey, The Call the Wind Mariah, Crazy, and so many other classics like this one.
not so. this is a similar version to willie with ray charles........elvis was pre recorded and dubbed in...........now c'mon people.....that's the last word on this matter.......next you'll all be saying that elvis was shopping in paris yesterday...........not paris texas either......?
The well kept secret about Elvis whereabout, hmmm ?.... well it might be Elvis depending of the time of this recording..... we don't know when.... Elvis was contemporary of Willie nelson, I just dunno whether they ever have performed together back in the seventies.... this song is old....
it is elvis presely pre recorded.....then willie was added later.......this is the technology now.....duets where artistes never meet..........trust me..........i have perfect pitch.............and nearly all of their recordings singly
Why did you change your voice in places???it sounds like you purposely changed to a more nazel pitch; to sound like Willie Nelson perhaps? I can't think of any other reason why, can you explain. I personally think it ruined the song
This is ELVIS, his early recording..remastred and willie addes 4 years later!! Ray Charles??? Don´t think so..listen to Willie and Ray and you will hear the difference!!
@478oliver Dont be thick. Just look at the sidebar and you will see at least three you tube clips involving Willie Nelson singing this with and without Ray Charles
@oxixu it depends on the ears of the listeners. What I hear and mean does not be right for you. But luckily we live in a country where we can have different opinions!
Absolutely. Elvis and Willie..........................but nobody wants to listen. If people mistake Elvis for Ray Charles then it's time for the waxol in the ears!
