As a 76 yr old retired Jazz drummer who's played with several famous Jazz industry Icons, this girl plays her ass off and any Jazz group would be lucky to have her backing their bands.
People who know drumming know Tony Williams. And people who know drumming know that this woman just played masterfully. Couldn’t be more impressed. I hope to see much more.
@Stormwriter So true! Most drummers play with a heavy metal kind of feel these days; always playing as hard and loud as possible. I love metal but that approach is so wrong for almost all other types of music.
everyone has a preference. theres room for both types, although i dont think drums over power on most of the bands Im guessing you are thinking about. Its rather the drum tubers make sure they are at the forefront. The other bands the presence of the drums means more to that genre. Theres room for everyone! If any thing a DYNAMIC drummer should be celebrated, one that can do both.
Oh god, you're not kidding.@@linuswang6572 The bashing and crashing on the cymbals from rock and metal drummers is just annoying. Do they honestly think bashing a cymbal every 3 seconds is musical and sounds good?
Wow, probably the best I've seen on youtube. Your technique is almost like choreography, making it practically impossible to make a mistake. That's a good lesson for me and a lot of drummers who are too stiff. It's clear you know this solo down to all the little nuances of timing and dynamics, and it sounds like you even got the tuning right. Bravo!
I agree. But for me, as an old, former rock/hack drummer, the sheer economy of her kit blew me away. She did more with less than just about any other drummer I've seen.

She’s gifted. It’s refreshing to see young people in jazz. She isn’t just some wannabe found so much on RU-vid. She’s the real deal. Intelligent execution. Her dynamics phrasings were perfect, well-felt, and quite impressive. Brava!
I'm not a huge jazz fan but love drumming in any form. It's amazing to watch someone this good play because it looks effortless, like they are hardly doing anything but only because they have eliminated every bit of wasted motion and energy possible.
WOW! Nailed it. My favorite Miles cut, which I’ve listened to countless times (thousands, or so it seems?). I’ve always thought Tony’s solo on this cut to be the most ‘musical’ of any Jazz drum solo I’ve ever heard. You not only were able to transcribe it, but you relived it - to the smallest nuance and inflection. You play so well, but as Tony showed us, you’re extremely musical and mindful. That was a joy to listen to.
I'm a 83 year old drummer still gigging with a Jazz ensemble. I thought I still had speed and definition in my solos. I guess I'll just shuffle off to the Care Home. Great, great work Kiddo 👍👍👍
