This is part one of my seven part series on supplemental pieces of samurai armor. It will cover what the particular piece is, as well as some of the variations of it when applicable. This video is informational about the historical armor. I will have a separate video series for a review of each piece of the armor. Thank you. I enjoyed making the series, and am honored to have at least one of each type on hand to show as an example. I will be doing a follow-up series reviewing the pieces as soon as I finish my review of the green suit, which was recorded last month and is in editing.

So what would be the primary reason some didnt have these supplementary pieces? Money? Preference? Or are they not necesserily objectively better?

Yes to both, as well as armors coming from a variety of smiths; sometimes it isn't even an option. Face armor had a variety of types; full face, the "classic" one we usually see (mempo), hanbo, hoate, even happuri. I may do a separate video on those in a future series.
