I agree. He's already got a foot in the rabbit hole might as well just go all in. One of my bucket list bands since I first heard them back in like 99-2000.
I'm a white guy but it seems he's expressing feelings about being black in America , never being noticed unless he's being jammed up or being harassed. Great band, no egos or bullshit attitudes, they just love doing what they do!
Lead singer is Black and here you go again opening up doors to awesome singers. Between Mike Patton and Lajon Whitherspoon your in for a real ride my friend. By the way Sevendust is still making music today since 94.
That's what I got from it too. I got to see them on this tour in 1997. Met Lejohn that night briefly.Super cool dude!!! I admitted to him that at first glance I though he was Corey Glover. He said well at least it isn't "Hootie". I also explained that since Living Colour had been M.I.A. at that point that it wouldn't be beyond the realms. Of course they have shared the stage together shortly after Living Colour got back together.
@@brettmarlar4154 Dude I met them around that time too! I was only in 7th grade at a rock festive with my mom. They were playing a side stage with barely anybody watching them play. I wanna say it was their first tour. I remember them saying it was their first time playing in Dallas.
@@brettmarlar4154 damn. I wish I could've seen Snot. The Fest I saw Sevendust at was a bunch of alternative rock shit like Bush and Collective soul. LoL. Sevendust was heavy as shit so I told my mom we had to watch and meet them
One of my favorite bands. They are underrated. I've "NEVER" heard a bad song from them. Bitch, Face to Face, Live Again, and Trust are really great songs as well.
They are definitely not underrated. However, if you want to play the "deserve card." Then yes, they should've been bigger than what they are but they have done very well for themselves.
I understand where you're coming from. They are a phenomenal band and I agree with you. Definitely would choose them over some of the other (more popular and bigger) bands out there.
LICKING CREAM.... you'll love it! Side note: Used to love introducing this band to my boys in the hood and then see their reaction not just to the music but the fact the lead singer is a brotha lolol
It's a song about racism. It is a song about the struggles he's faced as a black man and the darkness inside him as a result of that. Facing prejudice puts anger in you and that's what the song is about. So you are correct on both accounts. I am actually really happy that you reacted to this song and heard it. It's my favorite song by Sevendust. Much love. Thank you for letting us experience this with you.
@@lizardkingof1968 from north east Iowa, seen them many of times when they were a young band, They just to do a lot of House shows up here, now whenever they come near I have to go see them. After Slipknot they are one of my favorite bands to see live
Matthew Howard saw these guys on my 18th bday back in '03 at a tiny venue (the crest in Sacramento) and motherfuckers tore out the first row of seating for a pit. The energy is real
Gotta make sure it's the Strait Up version of Angel's Son, though. Video with them around a bonfire, instead of the video in a hospital. So much more heartfelt, doesn't have the cheesy string arrangement, and the drums kick in earlier. The video was a tribute to their fallen friend, Lynn Strait from Snot, and you can see so much emotion in everyone's faces.
I've always loved this song since the first time I heard it. It's one of the best songs to listen to when you're working hard and wanting to push yourself to go harder, or to keep going.. Greatness...
Sevendust is a great band. I've seen them live more times than I can count without heavy thought, and it's always a great show. They don't have a bad song anywhere in their catalog. Other greats to look into are Soulfly, and Clutch.
Soulfly is killer. "Jump the fuck up" with Corey Taylor is pure energized aggression. If that doesnt get your blood pumping you should apply to be an extra on The Walking Dead
Bro... Sevendust has been one of those bands that, since I first heard them like...god, 20 some years ago, theres never a mood I'm in that sevendust doesn't have a song to fit. They're high energy, slow and melodic, and everything in between. Cant say this about a lot of bands, for me. They're staylist. And they keep getting better and better. Lajon's voice is a bar not many can meet. Favorites from them: Trust, Shine, Follow, Licking cream, waffle. I...could keep going. There's not a bad song in their collection. Love your outlook on the music. Keep doing the thing. Yer killin' it
LJ lives in the same town as me here in the suburbs of Kansas City he's super chill and approachable! Me and the homies see him out and about with his family from time to time,
Love Sevendust. I remember seeing a commercial for this album when it was releasing. Lajon is a cool dude and he is a hell of a singer. He can do the metal stuff and then every now and then you’ll hear those R&B style vocals mixed in. I recommend seeing them live. One of the best live bands I’ve ever seen and they sound almost exactly like their recorded songs.
Check out "Angel's Son", it's an acoustic song written for a friend who died (I believe it was another artist, can't remember his name). Beautifully sung and definitely a bit different than most of their other music.
Hell yes some Sevendust! Such a great band with so many great songs in there catalog. They have been around since early to mid 90's I believe. They have only ever been nominated for a Grammy 1 time back in 2016 for there song "Thank You" which is a good track in my opinion. Of course they didn't win it they lost to Ghost which is another great band. Sevendust prolly in my top 5 bands I enjoy the most.
I've seen these guys 13 times. Amazing on every level. Nicest guys in the world. In fact, each of them has personally spoken to my kids about struggles they've had. Helped my youngest when she was bullied in school...encouraged my other daughter when auditioning to Indiana State School of Music...great guys, and I love them all.
You can't go wrong with Sevendust man. Such a massively talented, underrated, amazing band. This song is both about his depression and a lot of what he dealt with from racism when he was younger. He is pound for pound one of the best vocalists in Metal. Do yourself a great service and just take a few hours and binge their music. You won't regret it.
Started listening to them in 2000. And still to this day. Best moment was to see them in concert in 2006 during their Alpha album tour. Small venue in Colorado and amazing. My bro got a drum stick and I got a guitar pick. Happiness.
They are severely underrated, I’ve seen them live twice, best live band besides Rush. Met them the last show, they are so down to earth, Lajon hugged me several times, love them ❤️
Soooo glad you made it to my boys! Sevendust is my favorite heavy band! So f'n underrated. Lajon is so versatile. Partied backstage with these cats once, great dudes! Try Waffle, Bitch, Angel's Son, Face To Face, and Bender (w/Chino). Another good black guy singer in a band = The Urge - Jump Right In
skinhitter27 underrated for sure. But once someone hears them they don’t want to stop. I was listening to him talk to Johnny Dare (radio dj) and said I have to check them out. That was 12 years ago.
I was privileged to catch them in a tiny club in Chattanooga when this came out, talk about blowing your mind.... It''s good to keep your feelers out and have freinds who are into music to find what's happening in your town. Go to shows, seeing the next Sevendust or Tool in a tiny club is a memory you'll never forget and worth seeing 200 crumby bands who may never make it while supporting your local music scene.
Yes!!! Sevendust one of the best bands rocking for over 20 years. Keep it going. It makes me happy that you appreciate them. Next up, give Oceans of Slumber a shot, Winter. You will be surprised.
Sir, thanks for giving 7Dust Is chance. They are one of the greats. I've managed to see them live some 30+ times since the early 2000's and it never grows old.
Please do Fire from the Gods - “Excuse Me” The lead singer is black and he is a beast. He can sing, rap, and growl. Also the music video has a good message. Thanks.
Lajon's vocals are undeniable and so gritty when he gets loud and soulful at the same time that just goes perfectly with the instrumental for compete soulful chaos 🤘😎
Yo dude i have never see anyone groove to metal before. Hahaha love ya brother! Soul Fly is another band you could get into. You had me rollin "SKEET SKEET"
I first heard this band in late 2003 when Enemy was on the radio, became an instant fan. Saw them live around 2007 in Tempe AZ. Nonpoint opened for them.
One of the best bands in metal. Use to see them in their home town in Atlanta, playing the club scene before they got signed. Proud of these Georgia boys.
dude, do more! lajon has one of the most unique voices for this genre. and, as i mentioned in the last video, these dudes were successful but just never quite broke through the upper crust. also, "i'll take the 'orrrrrr' over 'skeet-skeet' anyday" - (closes eyes, takes a deep breath, opens eyes and exhales satisfied) thanks dude!
U prolly won't read this but ur outro describing hip hop today wit da whole skeet!!!skeet!!! Had me dying 🤣 💀 😭 😂 cuz its so true...but like u growing up to solely hip-hop and hearing bands like this makes me appreciate music like this more and more...stay blessed my G...
Both of the songs that I've seen you do from them are some of their oldest ones. I actually think that BLACK was their very first single. I was in college when it came out.
See you like some SEVENDUST. They're awesome, been listening to them since I was 10, when I would sneak there albums out of my brothers room. I'm now 31 and still rock out to them lol. Got to meet them last year, super awesome individuals. Awesome band!
First heard these guys back when WAAF in Boston had some late night air on local TV. That was back in like 1996-1997. Went on to see them probably half a dozen times. Great band. I'm 36 now.
Great band! Their self-titled debut album is straight fire from start to finish! Saw them and Coal Chamber live in Killeen, TX back in 1998. After the show, went with Lajon (lead signer), Clint & John (guitarists) and Vince (bassist) to a strip club to hang out. Morgan (drummer) couldn't hang out because his then girlfriend Rayna Foss (bassist from Coal Chamber) wouldn't let him. One of the most memorable nights of my life!
Saw these guys in a small club in the 90s while they were touring the first album. Once they started playing, I don't think my feet even touched the ground. The crowd was nuts and the band was AMAZING!
Man you don't know how it pleases me to finally see my brothers turning their ear to the music that I've always loved and thought that it was misunderstood like you said about "the yelling"and "what are they saying?" you know I'm glad to see that people are opening their minds and being more of a free thinker bless you bro and everything you do.... I look forward to you and thousands of other people opening their minds to the music because music is the great healer.
i've been listening to these guys for almost 20 years....finally got to see them live last year at The Machine Shop in Flint, MI... and they're still just on top of their game. Lajon loves his fans and makes sure they know it. just an incredible show.
This is one of the best live bands the last 20+ years. Treat yourself to the Live and Loud performance of this song. Reaction or not. They are unreal live.
Had that VHS back in the day. Gotta say, the set design looked kinda cheesey back then but would look suuuuuuper dated seeing it for the first time these days. All that said, love me some dust
Liked before the video started. Hell yeah, bout time you got to Black. Just need some Waffle now. Also almost guaranteed Sevendust being as underrated as they are, they’ve opened for 90% of the big bands out there in the metal scene. One of the best hype bands live. They always bring the positive energy.
Sevendust "Black" is one of the sickest opening, debut tracks i have ever heard. Instant adrenaline rush. Been a huge fan since 1997 and wish they never got lumped into the "nu metal" category cause they are so much more than that. Lajon Witherspoons voice and lyrics just hit me on another level.
FINALLY! Been trying to get someone to react to Black for awhile. Sevendust fan since day 1. Five Pointe O - The Infinity is my only other short list song. Obscure band for sure
Someone mentioned Skindred on the previous Sevendust vid and I gotta say, they have some great tunes! A brilliant smashing together of genres too, which I know you like 😁
Back in my miss-spent youth I had a friend that told me that metal was "yelling and screaming and beating the hell out of a guitar with a dead cat". He was into R&B and hip-hop which I never got, so we were even on that score. It all comes down to, enjoy what speaks to you.
oh men! I LOVE the way you react to all this music.. you are soooo TRUE men. whatever you say its so true.. a brother love right here! God bless your heart brotha!
31 I learned about rock when I turned 11 in Compton CA in the 90s it's a better life for it thanks 7dust gave me a band to show my family black people do metal yes!!!
