I love how people say he isn't technically skilled. He went to MIT and is trained in Jazz drumming. He is technical. It's called playing for the song, so if you think he is playing easy beats, well guess what. He is but it fits the song. Any seasoned drummer will tell you that playing a ridiculous amount of fills or rudiments will kill what this song is. He can drum around any of you haters all day long.
99% sure that most all of the people saying that what he plays is "easy" have never even sat behind a kit or are amateurs at best. Turn on a sevendust track, sit down at your kit and try to play along. His drumming is deceptively difficult and extremely polyrhythmic at times. The ignorance is real.
I am a guitarist/musician, but I have a percussionist idol, and his name is of course Morgan Rose... I really want to add a very important element to and on behalf of everyone's comment. If ever you have the chance to meet Morgan you'll see he is the most humble and respectful and friendly guy you could hope to meet. He treated my drummer/friends/band mates and myself with the coolest courtesy ever. We met them at Ziggys in Winston Salem NC, and while talking to him he excused himself for a moment to take a phone call from the late Dimebag who called to let him know Lane Staley had passed away. He trusted us to keep it quiet, which we did, for Lanes family hadn't been notified nor had the press. I Love and respect this man with all my blood...Incredible percussionist, and incredible person..
Morgan Rose is a very respectful and kind human being, BUT, you're full of shit on the family nor the press having been notified - #1 - it was his mother, with the help of the police, who found him dead, after his accountant called her to let her know there had been zero activity on his account for two weeks, so she and the police went to his condo.#2 - ANY death that the police are present is immediately known by the press, since they monitor the police for such newsworthy events. So, you thought someone found him dead and said "I better call Dimebag?" lol.
He is a really humble and cool guy. My boyfriend and I met him for the first time this year and the rest of the band for a meet and greet but Morgan was still around and we got to talk to him. It's like talking to an old friend once you get over the fact that you are talking to one of your heroes.
Nothing worse than an un-animated drummer at a live show...Morgan Rose brings the energy up big time during Sevendust live shows! I'm not even a drummer but I tend to focus in on drummers art live gigs, he is awesome!
He is just having so much fun blasting at every cymbal and drum with reckless abandon and love for that song to be comfortable to play with that emotion and feel….. a true drum master class on jamming!!
I've played like that before and that's anger, frustration, and hurt. Drums are a good outlet for that. Morgan and the whole Sevendust crew have been through alot. Im so glad their still putting out great music!
Morgan Rose is THE MAN. He has mad skills! Tthe best part is watching him play during his concerts. He has a blast up there performing for his fans. Morgan Rose I give you a 10. I've been a huge Sevendust fan and I love listening to you play bro. Keep it up brotha!
at 245 he twirled it to himself like that...i've seen them live 3 times, and morgan always has something new like that that blows your mind and reminds everyone how good he really is and how original his style is...he's the man
An incredible performer who wrote drum parts that were built for live performances. This man knew from the beginning that he wasn't making "studio band" music and designed parts that were intended to be performed every day for months at a time. That's not "easy"; that's brilliant.
I think one of the best things about Morgan Rose is that he brings the whole package to the drums. In today’s world, you simply can not be just a great drummer. You have to be great capturing everyone’s eye, and keeping it. For sure, he’s technical. His riffs, fills, and beats are all balls ass. He’s a beast. But he also forces you to pay attention to him. He’s the complete package, and Sevendust will forever be worth your money just based on his abilities, and force back there. Coming from a thirty year veteran of playing drums live, this guy is fucking hero in the drumming community, and we all a-predicate what it is that he brings to the table.
You should check out John Otto from Limp Bizkit. He’s an incredible drummer who has great groove and phat beats. He can handle both soft jazz and metal.
When I go to concerts I have so much fun watching the drummer. I hardly ever watch the front man. Hence why Tool is one of my favorite bands. Maynard knows his drummer is the best in the world. Which is why he's front and center with all the spotlights. Morgan is great! There's barely a song they play in their sets that lets him take much of a break at all!
i'm a drummer and as a musician but first of all as a music lover..i FUCKING LOVE to see and hear drummers like him.. having fun and still playing so tight.. \\m// ...what's that ride? by the way ...
I love watching him drum, like no other. Always fun to watch when someone's doing all these nifty moves, trying to destroy their drum kit, AND keep a beat at the same time lol
When I have shitty days, I come home, open my computer and click my bookmarks and find this video. I then sit down, close my eyes, and pick up my ear phones while this video loading. I start to pray and thank God for allowing me another day to live and for all those who have forgone their lives in order for me to perform my job. And when 1:23 hits, I fucking salute them by banging my fucking head.
When I went to one of his concerts he was playing and he threw one of his drumsticks off the ground and bounced to a fan he was still playing with one drumstick in the fan through it back to him
What the heck just happened 2:45 ? did someone by you throw a drumstick to Morgan? HELL Yeah @ 3:40 drumstick behind the back move. I've been behind Morgan a few times and I can just sit and watch him play all day. He's very entertaining.
Sevendust's monthly expenditures consist mostly of Morgan's drumsticks which he keeps tossing around everywhere and his cymbals which probably break after just a couple of gigs.
