The New York Islanders are interested in acquiring Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers according to several sources. Ehlers would be a solid addition to the Isles top line alonside Bo Horvat and Mathew Barzal but what would it cost to get him and can the Isles afford it? This does seem like a very Lou Lamoriello type move.

Omg 😳 feel better soon Gil! You are my go to source for our NYI. I know the Jets are looking for a player not a prospect! They want an experienced D man and Pulock is from the area. I really feel the deal will be Pulock and the rights to Wally for Elhers and a 5 rd pick. I really feel Elhers will be an Islander! Feel Better

@@LockedOnIslanders I feel there is a good chance Pulock would waive his NTC to go back Home. I do feel we need new blood on top 4 D. Lou can try to land a UFA or perhaps swing a deal. Might Lee who played for the Utah Grizzlies head back to Utah? This could be a big possibility. Lou Desperately needs to free up 12 to 15 million… time will tell

As for one of the topics of the day, Ehlers makes the Islander a bit younger, but unless more moves are made, the Islanders are still a team that barely makes the playoffs, not advancing passed the 2nd round. Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? I'm glad you're feeling better. I hope The Islanders sign Nikolai Ehlers. He's 28 years old, and can put the puck in the net. He'll be great with Horvat and Barzal. Now, if they can sign a player between 20-25 years old that's also known as a sniper. The Bob Nystrom Award goes to Cal Clutterbuck, and deservedly so. He's playing the best 🏒 of his career. The Islanders signed Jesse Nermy to an entry level contract. He's only 19 years old, so they shouldn't rush him. Casey Czesikus 10 goals 33 points. He could play anywhere with anybody, and he's not a quitter at 33. HAPPY 🎂, MATTHEW SCHNEIDER. He had a respectable career. We're you listening to Wayne Gretzky when he said Sergei Barkov best defensive player he's seen since Bryan Trottier. He also brought up how when The Islanders shut him out in the first game of the 83 Fiinals. Barkov must be really surprised at the comment, and from Gretzky, but just like Trots, he's a great two way player, too. Hear from you later, Gil, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.

Feel better Gil! I just hate sending a draft pick to move a contract. The Anders Lee contract is not that bad; its a 7mil cap hit but he makes less then that. Maybe if the Islanders move Lee for a pair of prospects or a late pick. One idea for LW is just put Noah Dobson their; the Islanders would be better off. To me Lou better pay attention to the blueline last year it was awful-one UFA that would be an awesome pick up us Vincent Desharnais -I want this guy on the Isles. Any news on Justin Gill? This kid is beast!

I don't see them moving Dobson to wing. He probably has the skill set but the Isles have no other defenseman who can provide offense like he can. Lee's contract could help a team like San Jose get over the cap floor. According to LO Sharks, they need to add $15 million to get to the floor. Will the Isles be smart and bold enough to move on from Lee? We'll see. Thanks for the comment, Mr.Robt1971.

@@LockedOnIslanders I think the Isles front office know they need to make changes. I'm sure Patrick Roy has a system in mind and Lou will work with Roy and make things happen. They're in tough spot so they need to be prudent and make the correct decisions. Bottom line is as long as they build a solid team, I have a positive out look on next year.

I like Ehlers , but Isles need to add some toughness in the line up . Also, how will the 4.5 million added to cap this year affect Lou's decisions this off season ? If at all . Heal up and great job !

Even with the $4.5 added, the Isles still only have a little more than $6 million available cap space and that doesn't include re-signing MacLean, Wahlstrom, Reilly, Clutterbuck, Martin or Aho. Not that all of them will be back, but you'll need some of that money to re-sign the ones you keep. To add, they need to trade away salary, most likely Pageau or Lee or both. Hey Gil, irregardless of how people feel about the vid, it’s not something to play with. Had it 2x, the 1st knocked me for a loop for a few months and the 2nd was a cold, hope you and the family feel better. As for Ehlers, I don’t know what to think. I’d prefer not giving up a 1st.

Hey Gil - I hope you and the Family Feel Better and although Hockey is an outlet for us to forget about the bad stuff going on in real life when it comes to medical stuff that must be your top priority. I'd love to see the Isles make this move for Ehlers and I'd rather the Jets get Pelech rather then Pulock but you gotta give something to get something and who knows maybe Winnipeg gets someone different in the deal. I hope this isn't the only move but as we've discussed there are several hurdles to jump to make those things happen. Rest Up and Hydrate and Get Better Soon.

If we trade pulock then we need to sign montour from Florida to replace him as our right handed defenseman plus he can move the puck better then pulock and QB a power play, for the second line id like to see them sign duclair, use the other 2nd round pick to get rid of lee’s contract, can see the lineup looking like this: Ehlers-14-13 Duclair-29-21 10-44-the Russian kid 53-32-18 28-8 3-montour 2-24

That would be an improved lineup, Kpowers-ri5rp, but I don't think it would fit under the cap. The Isles just don't have a lot of cap space to work with so they need to get rid of a big contract to add one. Moving on from Lee won't be enough to sign Ehlers and Duclair and moving on from Pulock isn't enough to re-sign Montour plus keeping Pageau. Keep in mind, Romanov and Dobson need new deals after this season also. Your idea is good but you need to free up some more cap space. Thanks for the comment.

@@LockedOnIslanders we’ll figure this upcoming season ehlers and pulock make similar so that’s a wash, getting rid of lee’s $7 million could give us just enough to sign montour and duclair, the following season Nelson and palmeri’s contracts are off the books and then you could look to trade 44 along with the cap rising could make it easier to extend ehlers, Dobson and Romanov

I have a feeling that first is going for eihlers even tho teams that can offer better packages will be on in the bidding too. Eihlers says he wont sign an extention. Hellebuyck, scheif said that a year ago before signing long term deals to stay with jets. Louzer needs to turn this into a multi player deal. Maybe flip some picks around and send 6 back in deal to go home to manitoba and relieving some of the long term cap strain on isle cap giving it to eihlers upon a new deal. And you know louzer loves to throw 7, 8 year max deals to every vet/acquisition that comes isles way. I doubt jets would take 44 or 3 in a deal. And i read that 4 players received new long term deals last year as ufa/rfa. Two of them signed by louzer. Does louzer not know what elc's are for and having players cost controlled for a few seasons to transition them into line up as players leave/age out? Probably why isles have no worthy players on elc/cost controlled deals outside of 10 and soon 8 will need a new deal. A likely deal in 7, 8 year range which would leave isles with 4 d men on 7, 8 year deals not even counting when 28 resigns. Eihlers has enough speed/skill to play wing with 13,14. Or could put eihlers on second line moving 29 to top line needing a c for line 2 with 21. I wish isles (with nothing to offer) could get the no. six pick and some of the plethera of picks utah yotes have next two drafts. Could take parekh with 6 pick, have assets for future deals, and get some much needed picks. And watch when louzer trades what is now the 20 pick away and misses out on a falling talent in an unpredictable draft lacking future star talent as of now.

Steven, I can't say I have faith that Lou will make the right moves. I hope he will, but I believe it when I see it. He has not proven able to manage the cap well. He doesn't manage ELCs well either as you pointed out. It's frustrating to watch an it happens over and over again. Thanks for the comment.

The current core is not good enough. Ehlers is a bandaid. Fix the wound. Fire Lou first, then go after draft picks. Youth and speed is the modern game.

hheellloooo owner of the Islanders, stop looking beyond your ahl, bring up Maggio and Dufour,,,,,stop wasting time with these two players, they are far better then the 3rd line, better than Ollie and Holmstom.... ggeezz it takes forever for you and the GM to improve this team...wake up ..

Most scouts don't view Maggio and Dufour as more than fourth line, maybe third line players at best. I hope they'll get a shot in training camp. The team needs to get younger, faster and more skilled, but let's see if Lou is willing and able to do it. Thanks for the comment, jimerrigo7142.
