Severne Sails - Blade vs S-1 

Hi, Matt here. I personally use the S-1 and Pyro combo and love it. There is a difference in the performance of the S-1 vs Blade, both have different styles of sailing. The Blade might be more stable and have better upwind drive however the S-1 has more low end power and is much more manoeuvrable. Pro's and cons of each! I use the Pyro as a thruster, I found the larger rear fin offers more back foot drive for upwind - maybe this will help you.

Thanks for the reply - coincidentally, I have also been riding the Pyro with a thruster and found it much better with the S1 - as you say, I guess it’s just tuning to the subtle differences between the Blade v S1 👍🏻

Hi, it's supplied to swap out with the top batten to give the sail more low end power and more front shape. Severne stopped supplying this extra batten from around 2020 onwards as it wasn't widely used.

@@tushinghamsalesltd thank you for getting back to me, really appreciate it. Makes sense to me to drop the extra batten for more low end power. I used the 4.8m 2018 S1 today and it was easily keeping up with others using older 5.5m sails from other brands. I replaced all my quiver this year with new but old stock S1 sails mainly 2018-2020 (I'm now converted from Neil pryde) I made a good choice, the S1 is so light in the hands and very stable as you mentioned in the review.
