SEWING TUTORIAL MCCALL'S m7745 - How to Sew a Fancy Wrap Dress - For Beginners!
This wrap dress looks like it was made for the runway, but you can make it for yourself with the help of this tutorial! In this video I show you every step for sewing this dress, including how to make and attach flounces, how to make narrow hems and how to work with sheer fabrics. Wrap dresses are ideal for beginners because you won’t need to know how to insert zips or button holes. Happy sewing!

I’m so glad I watched your tutorial before cutting into my pattern. I had done minimal research before starting but read that there were some size issues. I feel more confident now to start. I also liked your idea about doing the gathering stitches incase the bodice didn’t perfectly match up with the skirt. Also! The idea about sewing the seams together first, I never thought about that. My seams never match. Hopefully they will now if I use your idea. Please applaud your brain; it has so many good ideas!😅

How is this an "easy" wrap dress?! 45 steps easy! Lol. Mccalls labels it easy too. Wow. You, my dear, did a great job.
@PrimaDressmaker
@PrimaDressmaker 5 лет назад
The 45 steps are spread over the 4 different designs. I think it's easy because you need to know less sewing techniques. All the narrow hems make it more difficult and time consuming than a simple dress though :P

No set in sleeves, no buttonholes, no zipper, no pockets, no plackets, no cuffs. I could go on, but you get the idea.

This is so wonderful!! Thank you!! I didn’t see the purpose of the underlay fabric but after watching this tutorial I see it adds to the quality of the dress! ☺️

It's not clear from the video but the top layer is transparent, so an underlayer is definitely required. Thanks for the comment 😊

Dress is gorgeous! Absolutely wonderful print matching! Ribbon ends can be sealed/melted using a lighter by gently going over the flame or use a soldering iron to cut it ... Use your overcast presser foot for nice even measured 1/4" seam stitches. Its a standard foot accessory w/all sewing machines w/zigzag stitch settings ...

I am having trouble with the hemming of the "FRILLS" that are later going to be affixed to the Bodice. In regards to the hemming foot, what is the letter of the "HEMMING FOOT"! I really like that you are presenting a video tutorial, I REALLY, REALLY APPRECIATE IT! I am having difficulty with all of the different hems on the frill, if you could please explain in more detail, I would greatly appreciate it... Also I would like to know the number / letter of the "HEMMING FOOT"!!! NOT SURE IF I HAVE IT ALTHOUGH I just bought a BROTHER SE600, so hopefully I have the proper foot somewhere hiding inside the accessories that accompanied the sewing / embroidery machine!?!? PLEASE HELP!!! HAVING MANY, MANY Problems, and I need some ASSISTANCE!!! AND 1 MORE THING, IF THIS PATTERN IS CONSIDERED TO BE FOR "BEGINNERS", YOU ARE SERIOUSLY MISTAKEN!!! and PLEASE GET BACK TO ME A.S.A.P PLEASE, ITS BECOMING AN EMERGENCY!!! LOL!

I really like your videos. And your accent! ☺️ The only thing is suggest, not to cut, but our trace the pattern or fold for your size. Once you cut out the wrong size, and thus make the whole lot useless, you learn your lesson. 😳
@PrimaDressmaker
@PrimaDressmaker 4 года назад
Thanks Melinda :) Yes, tracing patterns is really great if you don't know your size or want to keep the pattern in best condition. I personally don't do it because I only plan to make a pattern in one size and I hate tracing ;)

Have you thought about doing McCalls pattern 7545? I want to elongated it so it's a dress rather than a shirt.
@PrimaDressmaker
@PrimaDressmaker 5 лет назад
To be honest I've got too many unfinished videos to do that pattern at the moment :P I recommend tracing out the bottom pieces with tracing paper. Then extend the side seams for as far as you need to make a dress. It sounds like a great project and I'd love to see how it goes

Have you made the "A dress" version of this? That is the dress I"m attempting to make and need some help ASAP!
@PrimaDressmaker
@PrimaDressmaker 4 года назад
No, I haven't made view A of this pattern. They look pretty similar though, except it doesn't have the overlay and the hem is shorter. What problem are you having?
@ahesa95
@ahesa95 4 года назад
Prima Dressmaker I’m so confused with does it need a “contrast b”? Also you did something different... was that to shorten the dress or what? I’m sorry, I’m new to sewing dresses and have only helped sew a few simple skirts.
@PrimaDressmaker
@PrimaDressmaker 4 года назад
@@ahesa95 If you're sewing View A, then you don't need the contrast/overlay. You just cut out 1 layer of fabric and the lining. What I meant to say is the View A is a different length and the hem is curved. You'll need to follow the skirt cutting line for view A.
@ahesa95
@ahesa95 4 года назад
Prima Dressmaker so I’ve gotten all my pieces pinned and cut, ready to start attempting to sew. I do not sew the lining (fabric II) of view A to fabric I when doing the darts right? I sew them as separate pieces? I’m sorry, I’m really confused and my mind is pretty muddled right now....
@PrimaDressmaker
@PrimaDressmaker 4 года назад
@@ahesa95 Hi, the main fabric and lining should be sewn separately. Don't see them together for the darts or the side seams 😊

Excellent! Is it possible to make this dress without the arm flounce, so it's just cami straps at the top?
@PrimaDressmaker
@PrimaDressmaker 4 года назад
Hi, yes you can leave the flounce out. Just ignore the steps that involve the flounce.The neckline and the staps will be sewn just the same.

About how many hours did you spend making the dress?
