Sometimes when using a tote bag the lining will pull out when you take things out of your tote bag. Today I'm going to show you how to connect your lining to your outer bag so that the lining does not pull out.
Here is the video that I watched to learn this technique - • DIY 안입는 바지로 "명품백"을 만들어...

If you feel like doing some hand stitching, you can sew the bottom opening closed with a ladder stitch instead of machine sewing. It creates an invisible closure and blends in with the rest of the seem. I didn't know what a ladder stitch was, but searched and found tons of instructions.

That’s an excellent solution. I’ve practiced and practiced and my ladder stitch is always a wonky mess.

I love doing this to most my bags. My process is a little different but essentially the same. I love how it makes the lining sit nicely, especially when all the seams are pressed opened. This is THE technique to do for reversible bags.

I've watched a few other videos about this method, but, yours is so helpful in that you explain with as much detail as you do how the bottom of the bag fits together when you sew the lining to the outer "shell" or "bag." TYSM for showing that detail to us. Hope you're still making videos for us to watch. 👍😉😻

Great super-size tote. Loved the stitching lining to outside bag. It is definitely harder with a smaller bag. I saw a woman sew the lining and outer bag together, and then turn it right side out without stitching the top together. At first i thought she made a mistake, but it worked, just differently than I thought it would. Who knew you could sew a "tote" soooo many ways!?

Hi Robin! Great tutorial! When making a lined tote I like a stay put lining too. My technique is a bit different, though with same results. I sew the lining and bag corners after the tote is right side out with the lining on the inside and topstitched. I leave an opening in the lining, enough to be able to maneuver getting to each side. Stitch the corners and close the seam.Voila! Works on any sized tote or bag from small to super-sized!
@rsislandcrafts
@rsislandcrafts 3 года назад
I’m trying to picture your version. Are your stitches visible?
@clombard7134
@clombard7134 3 года назад
@@rsislandcrafts I stitch the tote and lining together as you do, but no twisting. The tote looks complete on the outside, the inside has an opening in the lining to get to the corners.
@rsislandcrafts
@rsislandcrafts 3 года назад
Ahhhh. I think I can picture that. I couldn’t find any videos or blog posts about this technique. I’ll give your version a try on my next bag. Thank you for sharing. I really like how tight the lining looks when It sewn like this.
@clombard7134
@clombard7134 3 года назад
@@rsislandcrafts Also, when I close the small (whatever size) opening in the lining I will include a bit of the seam of the exterior too. I sometimes choose to leave the opening on the side seams. This helps the structure especially if your pocket is super-sized. No sagging here.
@rsislandcrafts
@rsislandcrafts 3 года назад
Very interesting. I usually sew with a larger seam allowance on my lining to help minimize the loose lining. I wasn’t sure if I could do that and sew the corners like I did.

Robin, I saw this video just when I needed it! I am going to be making several super-sized totes (9" width ×12" high ×12" long) for fabric stash storage by category. I hope to finish before we move later this year. Each side of the bag will have a pieced block made from fabrics in the category stored in the bag. That way I will know what is in the bag. 😀 (I am using blocks that I am making in the #100days100blocks2021 sew along. Some of those blocks might get made from apparel, flannel, fleece, home decor, or felt fabric instead of regular quilting cotton. 🤣)
@rsislandcrafts
@rsislandcrafts 3 года назад
Anna that sounds amazing. Your shelves are going to be so pretty. I love the idea of making a block to match what’s inside. I’ve seen an all red tote for red fabrics etc but I like your idea better. Plus, if you ever need a large tote you can dump what’s in It and “borrow” the tote for a bit 😉
