This brings back memories. When I was in Home Ec my Sophmore year, there was a guy in our class that made some basic shorts for himself, while the girls made more ambitious projects. He enjoyed his shorts so much, he got more fabrics and elastic and made like 7 more pairs of shorts. He still had lots of scraps left over so we showed him how to make scrunchies. I bet he made about 50 of them. Lol. He had so much fun. I still have a few of them
You crack me up so much!!! I have been a tailor/ seamstress For 40 years, but never had the Fun at this level, you have the Same fun mentality but you r dead on as a teacher! Thank you!
❤Such a beautiful personality😊.love the way she articulates. Yes, sewing simple is where it starts . From simplicity one will make master pieces. Happy sewing everyone and remember with God all is possible.
I could be having the worst possible day ever and just watching any of your videos, Even at random, just lifts me up so much that I just I smile through the rest of my day. Thank you for being such sunshine and fount of knowledge and inspiration and encouragement, DearHeart. You are such a great soul.
I am blad and have no use for scrunchies, and my wife isn't the biggest fan, but this channel is hands down my favorite craft channel so I watch it anyway. :-)
@@handmadeharriells Thanks for the awesome videos! My wife and I own a craft/textile design studio in Bangkok and both are super fans of your channel and your awesome energy and banter! keep it up.
you are truly dedicated to your craft. The perfect curls that you disturbed to apply a scrunchy underlines your commitment. I applaud this project and the super looking curls today.
😅🙃I’ll tell you what, I was AGOG at how nicely these held my curls. I slept in the giant sheer one! I’m going to make an oversized satin scrunchie for sleeping in pineapple style 👍🏽
Thank you for this. My sewing group has been asked for some tote bags for women freed from slavery and taken to safety. I want to be able to put a fun present into the ones I make and your tutorial is perfect. Not only are your tutorials fun, they help to help. x
The power of Marcy!! I watched and enjoyed the whole video-even though headbands pop right off my head, and when I pull *all* my hair together it’s only 5/8” diameter!! Maybe I’ll make a bracelet!!😁❤️
OMG!!!!!!!!!! complete fabulousness right there you Queen of the Peacocks!!! You totally NEED a crown for every divine outfit that you create......sending love from Australia. Oh and it would be sooooooo much fun if you sang a tutorial with your beautiful voice xxxx
You are hilarious! So much fun to watch and learn about new projects we can easily make at home. Lately, I’ve been learning to make scrunchies, ones with and without a zippered pocket. The one with the zipper took me about 4 hrs, I made several mistakes and that involved taking out seams a couple of times. While shopping at thrift stores, I stocked up on zippers…for pennies! It’s no loss cutting down a 7”, 10”, or even a 12” zipper when paying so little for them. I’m always trying to spend wisely! Thx for a wonderful video! ❤
I'm really enjoying these smaller projects, the masks, leg warmers, and scrunchies. I'm looking forward to the garments too, for sure, but these are so relaxing and achievable.
Hooray! I totally knew you’d wear all three. Totally. Oh! And demonstrating the tube turning on the tulle/netting was genius. Can actually SEE the thing. That’s how that should be shown all the time. ❤️
Just found your channel and I love your creations and your personality! You are wonderful! Continue being fabulous!😁👍 And I love your hubby sidekick ,who is so accommodating!
Marcy, you make the best videos on RU-vid. I appreciate the projects you bring to us, they're fun. Even more, I appreciate the education you give. Learning how to whip stitch is a basic skill to build up to, as you said, ball gowns. Thank you so much.
Wow thank you for your video watching from Trinidad 🇹🇹 an i really like your happy spirit i will be trying some of your styles .. thanx again God bless you..
I loved the leg warmer tutorial! Every once in a while my legs are cold no matter what! I still have an OLD pair of leg warmers that I pull out. I think it'll be fun to make a pair to wear (at home 😆) when the cold sets in.
Love Love Love This. I needed a few scrunchies and your tutorial was very helpful. Thanks and I'm still getting caught up (binging) on your videos. (Big Smile)
Oh my goodness you are too cute I love all your cute little scrunchies and I love your hair keep up the good work I am not at my hometown either but next week I will be so I’m able to watch more thanks so much🧵🪡❤️✂️
Oh I do love my scrunchy. I'm forever overheating and really need to get all this hair up and away from my neck. Can't wait to try these out. Hope you get back home soon. Much love from Scotland. x 😊
You are an absolute delight!! I look forward to viewing more of your videos. Why don't you pull the elastic thru the tube at the same time as you turn the tube inside out and save yourself one step? Can't you pin the elastic to the wrong side of the fabric and pull it thru, or is my total lack of spatial perception showing up again? No matter what your answer is, thanks for a fun, informative video.
Thank you Marcy!LOL loved the tutorial I can't wait for the rest of them! You had me full roll laughing hard when you said "curly hair half and the chrome dome half"
Another fantabulos video can’t wait to make SCRUNCHES . Thank you for bringing a smile to my face and joy in my heart. You rocked those scrunchies with your beautiful curls. Sending you lots of love♥️
I don't rest crunchies because I don't have a lot of hair anymore. Anyhow I watched your video because I just loved what you teach. I have 2 questions for you number one what is a" phasha"? That word makes me act silly and laugh! I started using it myself. 🤣🤣 The other question is are you near to a plan to make slippers? (100% coton).
I’m glad it was fun! Do you mean early on in the video when I’m talking about “protecting the fa-ce” (prounuced fah-che or phasha?) 😁😁😁that’s how I say “face” sometimes! I I think I picked it up in opera rehearsals long ago . It’s like pronouncing “voice” in Italian (“voce”, or voh-che...though “viso” is Italian for “face”.) That’s probably way more info than you wanted 🙃 Slippers are still on the list!
YES! SCRUNCHIES!! We wavy/ curly girls never really gave them up because they're so perfect for our hurr. I can't pull off the headband scrunchie, but I had two adaptation ideas to share that I thing might help with the structure of it. First, I thought about sewing a channel along the flat edge for the headband to slip into. It would have to be wide enough to hug the headband and still stick straight up, but I thought it might help keep the scrunch arranged neatly. Second idea: why not do a long French seam on it? The added layers in the seam would provide structure to keep it standing up. It would be a pain to turn the tube outside-in then inside-out again... 🤔...I think that's right? ANYWAY, it might be worth the extra step. Love ya tons, Marcy! Your videos always brighten my day. Thank you so much for sharing your creative genius-ness with us!
Doh!! I love the channel idea!! I wonder if it would lose some of the scrunch? *runs to pick up more headbands* I think the long French seam could work on wide (regular style) scrunchies, but yeah, pulling the tube through on smaller diameters would be a PITA. I also wonder if that seam would give it less loft when scrunched up 🧐
Thankya nikkie! The wax print cottons are all from House of Mami Wata (I link her in the dress video mentioned), and the sheer fabric was from Madame Joann’s (aka Joann fabrics 😅)
@@handmadeharriells Thank you I will go back and re-watch the dress video. Ha ha ha, Madame Joann, I know her well. I was at her house yesterday. Thank you again, I look forward to the next video.
Top tip for sewing multi layers. The French seam area. Make the stitch length longer, gives more thread for the thickness. Your sewing machine will thank you. Remember to but it back to normal. This tip takes the frustration out of thick seams.
I would just shorten the length of elastic, and maybe knock a few inches off the length of the fabric tube! You can wrap elastic around your hair for size (or measure an old hair band). The thing to remember about the fabric tube length is that you can always cut some length off if it’s too scrunchy once you insert your elastic-but you can’t add length back later! Better to stitch the tube up longer, and cut it down if you need to on your first scrunchie, then use that measurement going forward (because these things are like pringles, trust me)
Love your videos, very funny and informative at the same time! What type of fabric do you have hanging over the door? It looks like fabric from Guatemala, where I'm from. Interesting that you always have it on the background.
It is! I found that here in AR at one of my favorite vintage stores, and when it’s too warm to wear it on my bod, I like to have it in plain view in our home 💗
I made scrunches. So fun! Thank you. I want to make a adult loose fitting jumpsuit. I’ve been seeing them online but can’t find a pattern. Do you know where I might find a pattern like this? Do you have any interest in making one? They look very fun. Thanks for sharing lovely your self.
You are never off base...especially NOT w/leggings... Leggings rule all year round for all sorts of sports..my fav ROLLER SKATING (yep 4 wheels/old school style😁)
I may just have to make some even though I’m not sure that 63 year olds should wear them. One question/ what is wax print fabric? I know I’m asking before I google. Lazy night
Wax print is one of my favorite fabrics! It’s a cotton fabric that was originally intended to be a knockoff of batik, but became its own sought after fabric. As Debbie says, it’s similar in many ways! And, I’m positive you should wear whatever makes you HAPPY 😊
I think-I hope-they will make a LOT of things better. It occurs to me that anyone raising kind humans should be thanked for their service-so, thank you!
At 21:10 on our right side of Marcy's head, a tiny point of light (almost like a spark) flies from her head and moves diagonally up and to the right of the screen. I think Marcy has a little spirit hanging around the house or with her. Actually, you either have one that keeps flying around, or a few more. I keeps seeing them. Some of them are just fluffs from the fabric and don't shine any real light. But there are others that do have an inner light. Did any one else notice them?
Now that you pointed that out, I saw it, too! I never thought of floating dust mites as little spirits (or faries?) but now I'm disappointed in myself because I always believed that I'm all about the magical, mystical stuff, but apparently not. 🧚😳
@@Jen_S_Hassler1258 Well, there are such things as floating dust and such that a camera may pick up. I try to be logical about such things. I dont believe that every "orb" I see is a spirit (or something paranormal). Sometimes it's dust, a flying bug, a reflection of some kind from a car. But some of the flying things here even though they were tiny, some of them did have their own inner light. Flying bugs will reflect light, usually at night in IR cameras, but this is broad day light in Marcy's house. A bug would not be reflecting light in the middle of the day and I'm sure she's not using an Infra Red camera. None of them looked like any sort of insect to me. I did see some fabric fluffs randomly floating on the air currents but they were fairly slow and had no inner light. Bugs often fly around erratically, and you can usually see their wings fluttering as they move. But some of these tiny lit orbs shot across the room as if they had a purpose, they knew where they were going and they were mostly straight lines with some speed.
This little thread has me giddy. I wanna theorize!!! We’re lucky to have a wall of videos facing our workspace, with lots of indirect sunlight for most of the day. When I adjust my project towards the end of a video-when there’s plenty of scraps, and late afternoon sunlight coming through-the light from the windows catches all the fluff coming off of the project (of course, also dust, and we keep the windows open to the yard between takes). But it’s EVER so much more romantic to say that by the end of a project, through my ever increasing levels of joy at sewing, I have transformed any specks of fabric into light. I MEAN. (now, it would be interesting to see if I transformed any orbs in my mask videos 😅)
That little scrunchie is too big for my horror hair. My goal is big hair always but I have thin and fine hair so it is a goal and we all need goals. Good work, as always, and please send hair.
