Sewing a 1930s dress on an antique Singer sewingmachine

This week I made a dress after a 1939 pattern. After sewing costumes and historical fashion for so long, I am branching out to the realm of vintage clothing. For this project I used the antique Singer again, and it works like a dream!
As the dress progressed, I found the fabric a bit unsuitable, so after this I'm making a second one in another fabric. It's a bit more heavy and a beautiful golden-green colour, I can't wait to start it. Realising that I might not get a lot of wear out of this dress did make my work a bit less tidy. I hope you enjoy this video anyway!
What are you sewing right now, and what machine or technique are you using? And do you prefer more historical sewing or are vintage projects interesting to you as well?

1st, I love your floof kitty! 2nd bunny slippers; 3rd the beautiful Singer Machine. Ok, love the whole video and the dress... FYI, if anyone wants a treadle machine as a lifestyle choice (no electricity usage) I think Janome makes them still for the Amish demand, and Amish craftsmen make treadle cabinets....if one does not have access to an antique. Happy New Year!🎊🎈🎆

We have treadles sold brand new still at USD100 in Bolivia, South America. It's heartening to know co's I also like this aspect of creating without using electricity. I have an industrial single needle straight stitch machine but will also get a treadle for the love of all things simple and beautiful. People sell treadles secondhand but they're usually so worn out (table, decals) that the impending repair hurts my brain as I don't know how to do it.

I am glad to find this channel. A very nice, crisp video of a "back clamping" Singer 66 with the rare lift out hand crank option. It sews well, and the dress turned out great. I have many treadles and have not seen a converting treadle in working order yet in person, or in video, just pictures. Good fluffy cat and bunny slippers a bonus!! lol.
@JuulThijssen
@JuulThijssen 4 года назад
I didn't realise that our machine is uncommon! It is really great to be able to switch between treadling and handcranking. The only thing that doesn't work well is winding the bobbin with the treadle function, and I suspect that is because the replacement rubber ring isn't the perfect fit.
@alibabafurball
@alibabafurball 4 года назад
@@JuulThijssen Could be that or the treadle belt is slipping a bit or both. Some tires are a bit over or under the correct size. The pressure from the bobbin winder on the tire could cause a bit of slip. Could it also be the winder tire shaft needs oil? I am presuming you are in Northern Europe and those treadles are more common there and UK. I have only found part of one here in Canada. It is just the case bottom and the working machine, base gone long ago.

take the machine OUT of the cabinet. the cabinet and treadle should fit in the back of most suvs. if you really have to you can unscrew the treadle from the oak cabinet. in three pieces anyone can move one.

Question about you're lovely Singer. Do you know if she was produced around 1922 or 23? That would be my best guess, based on the hand crank and the painted decoration (King Tut was discovered in '22 and the decorations for household objects became stunning). And, lovely work on the dress, by-the-by. - Cathy (&, accidentally, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown
