This is absolutely gorgeous! If you don't mind slight feedback, I'd love it if you gave us more time at the end of you modeling the clothes you make. I really love seeing the payoff, and getting to see how it looks on you and the final outcome is really the most satisfying part.
My mother had something similar in the early/mid 60s. It likely came from JC Penney as she worked there for years. The outfit was a dark brown color which suited my mother well. She would liven it up with a bright scarf. She also was a fan of pretty shoes.
I love this lady! I've seen a few short vids and I have been enjoying her retro vibe, complete with red lippy. I can't do anything creative like this and it looks impossible! Gorgeous fabrics and patterns. Plus, this lady has the perfect figure for these 50-60s clothes. I'm a frumpy retiree who could never wear this stuff but I sure do love to watch this lady's creations come to life. Thank you!
LOVE your suit! You look like you just walked out of 1960! My mother would have worn something like this! Love your wallpaper, too! I was born in the early 1950s, so my childhood, teen years, and college years spanned three decades, the 50s, 60s, and 70s! Best music! Best clothing styles! Best movies! Are you sure you're not a Time Traveler? 😉😄You are so classic and classy!🥰
Don't know what else i can add as a comment ! It's all been said !! From the choice of material, to the execution of the pattern !!! The results r absolutely beautiful !!! I feel u when u talk about being afraid to cut into ur more expensive fabrics too !!! That can b a paralyzing fear !!! But u r concurring that with ur furthering sewing experiences. I love ur humility. It gives others the push they may need to try projects ! Can't wait to see u model ur new suit ! And thank u for sharing ur knowledge !
You take me back to the time when sewing was absolute perfection in my world and I didn’t know anyone else that appreciated a homemade outfit as much as I did. I love your fabric.
My mother had a similar cocktail suit in the early 1960's. The skirt had a nylon top not meant to be shown. Hers was in a shiny brocade peacock blue and green. It was gorgeous. Yours turned out beautifully.
Gorgeous. I hope your daughters pick up your love of sewing because they will save so much money and will always be the best dressed person in the room.
Thanks! I already work with wool it’s just I splurged and got higher quality a few years ago and I’m still antsy about using it 😬. I refuse to let the fabric roll into 2024
I know this is not what the video is about but I love how worn your pattern package is. I love things that show their use. I don't normally crack the spine of my books but my favorite books have cracked spines but this shows how loved they are. Spine cracking is so bad I can't believe I admitted it.
Thank you! I have to agree. I don’t love getting envelopes in such poor condition but when I do and I actually make the pattern I’m so excited that something so worn can be used to make something so pretty.
amazing work! it turned out great and your choice or fabric was perfect. i totally get the feeling of not wanting to cut into the nice fabric you’ve bought!
You are truly a talented an amazing lady. You take us back to a time when women were truly ladies. You definitely stand out in a crowed in the most positive way. Very elegent and poised. I love your sense of style and the ability to keep alive a lost way of life.. You are truly one in a million👍
My grandmother was born in 1909 when she was sewing she would use old shirts and for interfacing on her cottons and sometimes she would use old sheets two-line skirts dresses &jackets. Being a mother of 3 girls during the depression she couldn't waste a thing. Any scrap she had left went into quilts.
SewRena that suit is stunning on you! Thank you for sharing your tailoring tips with us! The beginning of this video I just loved seeing that smile of yours, you looked so happy making this suit! Just STUNNING ❤️
Your skill is very impressive. The finished garment was incredibly chic and beautifully feminine. I also loved your choice of fabric and it’s clear your vision was executed to the utmost standards. Totally Gorgeous !! Not being an individual that has attempted this craft/skill- I can’t even imagine the time and effort it took to master clothing construction to your level. Your videos are edited- and executed- just as COOL and manicured as your finished clothing creations . I love this era in women’s fashion partly being because of the “body” type and look the measurements geer towards - lol if that makes sense 🤣 but also the choices in texture, pattern, buttons etc- it’s all so beautiful and stylish . thank you for all your hard work in presenting your process and progress within your project demo vids - HUGELY entertaining and informative- Adam
1961 McCalls pattern of great design. Women were so stylish and ladylike. I remember my dear Mother sewing in the afternoons during the early ’60s on her Singer. Your presentations sure are fun to watch!
My gosh SewRena, this is the most professional looking Gorgeous suit I have ever seen anyone sew...Seriously, you are amazing. A sculptress of fabric. I am in awe of your talent. Well done you.
Lots of different techniques here! Sometimes there’s some comfort in interlining with muslin vs interfacing knowing the glue won’t eventually wear away and cause weird wrinkles etc. ❤️
That fabric is Everything. Wonderful find and it became a beautiful suit. Well done. The pattern design of the 50's still have me in awe - they had so many ways to achieve the same result. According to my 1935 Simplicity sewing book, you can use a regular canvas fabric in place of horsehair. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
I do that too. I purchase really nice fabric and then store it and never use it because I almost don't trust myself with the scissors...or tell myself I haven't found the "right" project yet. I like what you said about "getting out of my own head", I think I will follow your lead and do the same this year! 💗
Gorgeous suit! You are a fantastic seamstress don't sell yourself short, make those things you want to because they will turn out just the way you want them to.
How have I not discovered you before?!? As a vintage fashion lover, I adore your aesthetic, style and taste. I will looking at everyone of your videos.... incredible.
I just started watching the video, and I am living for the wallpaper in your sewing room. Just finished the video and WOW, that is a fantastic suit. Love the fabric, the cut, everything. It's a keeper.
I so resonate with your comment that it's hard for you to get out of your head and cut into your fabric! That's the perfect way to phrase it. Thank you for a really interesting video with lots of quality instruction.
Oh wow that looks so stunning on you! Perfect choice of fabric, colour and pattern for you ❤. Now, I am a tailor and I appreciate the work you put into your projects. If I may, I would like to suggest you look into "turn of cloth" before starting your precious wool projects. It's a technique that makes all the difference in how finished garments look. You use it in all materials from quilting cotton to really heavy wool, but it makes a huge difference in all thicker materials, like coat fabric. It's difficult to explain and it takes quite a lot of practice but in short it's making sure the outer material of let's say a collar is bigger than the inner side. The ditch of the seam should lie invisible on the underside of the collar or lapel when you wear the coat/jacket. Some patterns have two separate pieces for inner and outer collar, if not you have to make accommodations yourself. The thing to keep in mind is that the outer fabric "travels longer" on its journey around the body, or a fold. Good luck with future projects and thanks for this very pretty and inspiring channel 😀
Love the suit. You did a beautiful job and I’m glad you decided to dive in and get it made. The only thing I struggle with is the white hose. They look too much like nurses white stockings and it’s where my eye automatically goes to when you are modeling your phenomenal outfit. No slam against nurses. Been one since 1983. I came up in the era of nurses cap, school pin, white uniform, white pantyhose and white nursing shoes. Trying to keep all that white sparkling clean and “white” was a challenge. A pair of low pumps in a color matching the suit would be awesome! Excellent workmanship!!
I am so happy to see that I am not the only one that uses that little spot on the side of the front of the sewing machine to cut the thread loose instead of a pair of scissors but I do have my favorite pair of scissors at my sewing machine at all time
Serena My mom use to wear. PEDDLE PUSHERS. I can't remember if they are just below the knee are above the ankle. It's for summer spring WEAR. Yes your body size is about the same size as the average 1950,60s. What about hats for summer, scarves were a big thing either tied around the neck are top of HEAD and tied at the neck. I am really enjoying your channel u just popped up one day. Again u RE SOOOO TALENTED. And u r cooking tooooo I can't believe ❤❤. Have u made your hubby a custom made suit? He must be so proud of you ❤❤
So lovely! You bring back memories of when I was younger and had a better shape, lol, and would sew suits for myself. Love your choice of lining, too. Keep the videos coming!
i love the video! also i'm a big fan of an outfit looking as beautiful on the inside as the outside. and this does that so well!! i love watching your sewing journey!

Also Ma’am any chance You could make a Coco Chanel Suit ?
I had a chance to finish watching this video & realized I have the same buttonholer as yours, times two. I ordered my first buttonholer, a straight-needle model, through a local store in 1989. That’s probably before you were born, SewRena! I bought a Singer 401A slant-needle sewing machine on eBay in 2021. I got a slant-needle Singer Professional buttonholer on eBay later on. I have used the buttonholers to do regular and bound buttonholes. Really nice results!
I love your projects! I started sewing in the early 60s and you remind me of my early projects in 4H!! I don't sew as much because I'm a knitter now, but I'm getting the itch to start again with your ideas!!
I just happened upon your channel and let me say I love what you are doing. I am getting into vintage Chanel lately and love that you use a vintage sewing machine. I have a Kenmore as well and the machine is great.
I loved the drop shoulder. Isn’t it great to find a pattern that’s close to being tailored to fit you? I am such a fan of this style of suit. It’s so classically beautiful.
I just found your channel from a short you did. I fell in love! I'm really enjoying watching your videos. As a fellow vintage/historical clothing seamstress/knitter/ wearer/ and lifestyle enthusiast, I truly appreciate your content.
You do lovely lovely 🥰 work I am captivated on how exact your eye and idea of that time brought back to this era you are a wonderful visionary my dear ……very impressed on your talents keep up your creative enigma is what I call you it’s just a natural effortless feeling but you understand what where when and why and when you know those you have got it We live what you do in Raleigh North Carolina ❤
I have a reproduction in this style. It’s a boat neck sleeveless sheath dress with a short little stand up collar matching blazer. I love the fabric you chose for this. As always you look impeccable in it.
I love you! You are so beautiful. You should have seen the hand made dresses I wore to school! Mother of pearl buttons, decorative braid with tucks and gathers and pleats. And I remember when grandmothers looked like grandmothers. They had modesty and class.
