Sewing a Chanel Style Jacket with a modified McCalls 6708 pattern using Claire Schaffer's methods
#sewing #howtosew #sewingtutorial #fridaysews
Hi Everyone and Welcome Back to My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing project.
This one is all over the place. Am I using a knit pattern for a woven fabric? Yes I am. Am I going to be pushed over the edge with a shortage of matching trim? Very possibly! But it turns out beautifully! This little jacket is a combination of amazing fabric, a couple different patterns, and a lot of "let's make this work"-ness. Is that a word? Anyhow, I hope you like it!
~Marie

That chain mishap was a blessing in disguise. The three rows are so tidy through the top corner. It never would have come out so nicely with the mitring. Maybe a pest of a blessing, but it worked out in your favour. The sleeves are the perfect length on your daughter. Bonus!, they line up very nicely with the bottom edge of the jacket 😊 Looks like your baby girl loves it. The whole outfit is really nice.

People certainly do pay extra for that - and a good deal extra too! I particularly liked the "blessing in disguise". That's going into my bag of tricks if ever I have to get a multi-element trim around curves and corners - the end result was Chef's Kiss, Marie. :-)

Really enjoyed your How2 Chanel-Inspired Jacket tutorial! Beautiful Jacket! I can't sew a lick but I'm obsessed w/ Chanel jackets and the history of Coco Chanel designs. I recall seeing a RU-vid video about the history of Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel and her iconic suit. A british fashion archivist explained that the reason a Chanel jacket had quilted sectioned lining was to better support the loose weave of the Linton tweed fabric and hold its shape. The chain at the hem of the jacket was to add weight to ensure the perfect drop and swing.

What a nice jacket. Great call to leave buttons off.....it would have been too much. Also replacing the chain was excellent. The outfit looks stunning. I have seen Chanel suits from the '60's w/ 3/4 length sleeves.

The chanel style trned out beautifully. I sewed for myself for many years and then have quilted hundred of quilts, mostly hand quilting. I would have hand quilted the jacket, think you would like the result, changes how it fits and feels, also, the chain should provide a little weight, again will affect the fe=it. You are such a beautiful seamstress.

Hi from England. What a coincidence, I bought the Freddie jacket pattern from Bella Loves Patterns only this week and hope to start it shortly. I am always behind watching vlogs and you were in my To Watch library and I came to it this evening. I am going to use your method of making the jacket with different finishes. Love the way that you have made it. Thanks for doing these videos.

Another idea if you only have 2 buttons is to create a dress clip or sweater clip with button on each side attached to clips (purchased) with chain in between that you can use to hold jacket closed … like a piece of jewelry

Just a question: how many buttons do you buy when you see something nice and you don’t have a particular project in mind? Does the number vary according to the size of the buttons?
@mybucoliclife

Hello, if I'm at a place that has a big button bin, will try to get about a dozen. That way I have plenty no matter what. But sometimes you just take what you can get. Thanks for watching
