I bought a dress that I love, however, I found a fabric that I love even better. Here I show you how I made a dress look like the dress I purchased, with a few changes! Dress form I use: amzn.to/4eePUW0
I was worried that there wouldn't be enough ease and then it fitted perfectly,. Loved this video. I've been drafting / making all my own clothes for the last five years and sitting here watching wearing a dinosaur print dress I made. I love the freedom of choosing my own fabric and making what I want. Will continue to watch and see what other beautiful things you make.
I know what you mean! Ease can be hard to determine. I'm absolutely loving the freedom of choosing my own fabric as well! I love so many clothes that go on the market, but the fabrics are not my ideal!
I love this project. The dress is gorgeous from the fabric to the finishing touches! I find the mannequin really handy but I'm not sure whether it will work for me. My body it is not as well balanced and proporcionated as yours. My breasts are a E size but my back is narrow. Could it be ajusted like that? Thanks for sharing your work!
Thank you! And Good question! I should do a video on how I use my mannequins. I’ve dealt with that on many occasions. If the mannequin will not adjust to your size, I like to add padding to the areas that it won’t expand. There’s a lot of bad opinions about adjustable mannequins, but I’ve found that they can be used, if used correctly!
I've just finished design school but I am wanting to get a mannequin as I am plus sized. I heard those adjustable mannequins are difficult to work with. What are your thoughts? Was it worth the money? It was also fun to watch someone else use the draft on a mannequin process. :)
Congrats on finishing design school! This is definitely a valid question! I highly recommend an adjustable mannequin, however, if you are fitting a mermaid style dress or pants, I don’t recommend it. For dresses that are not form fitted to the thighs, it’s amazing! I’m going to do a video on this so I can fully explain how I use them. 🙂 I have the link in the description for the mannequins I use. They come in all sizes.
Thanks for sharing. The dress design is a definite improvement over the original and is more flattering on you. Once in a while I see something in the store and try it on. Then I take photos of the garment and it's construction. I go home and start planning the project out in a high end version with my own design tweaks. I no longer go for the off the rack aesthetic but do bespoke and enjoy creating it myself.
Thank you! That’s a real compliment 🙂 I’m starting to get in that same mode of designing my own just like what you do. We get to choose our own fabrics and change up the construction to fit our own preferences too 🙂
No fuss, no waffle, no socials, no artsy intro, just “I made this beautiful thing and here’s how” with a ‘you can do it too’ attitude. Wonderful! Thank you soooooo much for sharing. 😊💝
