Fixing a dress I wasn’t happy with while enjoying the first days of autumn! 🍂✨ Links: Instagram: @friedalepold / friedalepold Website: friedalepold.de Music via Epidemic Sound #cosyvlog #sewing #corsetmaking
I liked the original dress for what it was meant to be - a corset dress. This one looks like a brand new patters, especially playing with the direction of the shine of the fabric. Very satisfying, since the color is my favorite. Beautiful work, Freda!
It looks beautiful. I like the brown dress best. The angle gathers from the back are stunning. I did watch the white dress video as well. Turning some of the patterns pieces to get a darker shade was brilliant. I enjoy all of your videos. They are produced very well and have an ethereal quality which is relaxing as well. Looking forward to more. I’m 73 yrs old and my mom taught me to sew when I was about 10 yrs old. I’m from the west coast of Canada. Take care.
I watched the reveal and final thoughts of it first video again and noticed the fit of the top of the corset. While I think the first dress was beautiful, I can understand your disappointment that it didn’t meet your expectations and your vision of the design. The play with the fabric sheen accentuated the seams and the Watteau pleats added drama to the second dress. It’s truly gorgeous. I hope you will be able to use this lovely design at some point in the future. Thank you for sharing your creative processes, inspiration, and meticulous work.
It turned out so beautifully. I love the silhouette, and the crisp lines over the corset only a very skilled seamster could create. Your work is just so technically proficient and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your process.
Both dresses have their merits, they are both lovely in their own ways for what they were intended to be, but the drama of this one fills my mind full of fabric ideas.
Thanks Frieda! ❤ I like your quiet „watch you sew“ videos, but I also like this deep dives when you share your knowledge with us! Mach weiter so und danke dir 😊
Your bodice is exquisite. When you mentioned that you were playing with the nap or shine of the fabric I wasn’t sure but the final result was chef’s kiss. Love your channel.
Oh, how beautiful! This gown is stunning! The chestnut color is very beautiful, and pairing it with your lovely locks of hair and your skin color is absolutely gorgeous!!🤩👏🏻👏🏻🍂🍁…and you have the most beautiful hands, I love watching you caress and guide the fabric…
I learn so much from each of your videos and learn even more from those where things didn't go according to plan, because learning how to make the "alterations" really helps me with my own sewing. Thank you for sharing them.
Absolutely stunning Frieda. It’s historical, It’s modern. The variation in sheen added so much extra to the front. It’s just lovely. If last weeks dress had been in literally any other color, I think it would have been a success. It’s just so hard not to see undergarments when you have exposed boning and ivory together. Had it been in a plum it would have given a totally different vibe. I really love how you rolled with it and kept going. I have had many projects that have issues and they get tossed aside and it takes me forever to finish because I get stuck on what to do to fix the problems. It’s a problem that a lot of us makers have and I like seeing how people problem solve when things aren’t always perfect.
I think that's the first time I've seen Watteau pleats done in a way that doesn't make me say, "Ugh, WHYYYY?" Cool detail. Thanks for showing us your process for taking something you weren't happy with and turning it into something you really like!
OMG I LOVE this version of the dress. The fabric is beautiful and the final result with the way the fabric is placed on the sides from top to basque is unique and has a very stunning effect with the back length. Well well done Frieda, you are sooooo talented!!
While I love the drama of those back pleats and the train, what most draws my eye are the beautiful lines of the corset/bodice. They look like a modernist abstraction of a tulip to me, and there are some beautiful brown tulips, so the color only adds to that look for me. I appreciate how thoughtful and intentional your work is, and how you are willing to rework a design that doesn't feel right to you.
I love both dresses and videos. Im really glad you uploaded both. Sometimes projects just aren’t what you want, and I think it’s valuable seeing the process you used to adjust the second dress to your desired outcome. Lots of different techniques! Thank you :) *edit: at 18:09, the tree behind you makes a leafy halo crown over your head! You’re a forest princess!
Beautiful work. I love the flow of the pleats on the back going into the front. It looks very regal. The white one was lovely, but this one is stunning.
Absolutely loved it. Very inspiring and love getting to know your process. As a designer when things don’t work out well I kind of ignore them, but loved that you analyzed why you didn’t like it and then solved it.
I love the contrast you achieved with the sheen directions. It looks like different fabric, it's very cool. And the design is beautiful. I really like how the gathering stops right before the mid point in the front but then keeps going in the back for an almost faux cape. The brown is very autumnal too. It's beautiful. I liked the white dress too, but it's nice to see something repurposed into something else that makes the owner happier Also, you have the most beautiful hands. I love watching you work. Hopefully that doesn't sound weird
I didn’t see the first video, but the dress is stunning. And I am so glad that I am not the only one who occasionally needs to remake something when it doesn’t come out quite how it was envisioned
I loved the design and the process of creating the original dress but this one is just stunning! You've turned something you're not happy with into a gorgeous gown that suits you beautifully
Thank you for making a 2nd video! My favorite part is the front of the bodice. The different sheens really look fantastic! The long pleats in the back are very dramatic.
I´ve watched both video´s and I love both! The white dress and it´s concept is very interesting. This dress has a very different charm to it. And I love to see what you´ve done with the back. Am curious and excited to see what else you will be making, lots of love
Hi Frieda! Im a novice seamstress and im attempting to make a formal gown for my birthday this year. This video is a wonderful resource! Thank you for all this great information and this documentation process
I love both, but the newer one seems more elegant. I love think you an achieved a cool autumn leaf look, because you switched the direction of the fabric on the different corset pieces. First one is very princess bride and the second one is giving Autumn Queen.
I so do know the struggles related to being a perfectionist. The struggle is real. Most of the time, it's hard to press on in confidence because I feel like what's before me is just not good enough, let alone PERFECT. By the way, I love that bracelet ❤.
Both are an amazing dresses, i like more the brown but both are beautiful. I can relate with the "i dont hate it but im desappointed", we always know that we can do better and everything we make is another lesson. I would like to have you as a teacher for pattern making, thats my weakness.
Both of those pieces were just gorgeous! I think you're too hard on yourself sometimes. Your skill as a seamstress is unbelievable! Be proud of the pieces you have made....even the ones that you really don't like....they all are beautiful pieces of artwork! Thank you so much for sharing your skills and knowledge!
absolutely stunning and inspiring! I'm currently making a black gown that has somehow the same front and tackling the project has been stressing me a lot. thank you for sharing your journey 🥰
Oh my! I do love the alternating sheen of the fabric, beautiful design choice. I really marvel at your attention to detail and level of effort in making patterns, mockups and the final dresses. And then to give us such lovely reveals. Chef’s kiss! ❤. Question: did the wet grass leave a watermark on the fabric?
Thank you 🥰 And that’s a good question :D I haven’t checked since yesterday when it was still a bit wet so I don’t know 100% but wit the last dress I made from this fabric we’ve been to the beach and it got wet was well and nothing stained!
Frieda, I honestly think that you are brilliant! I love the way you treat the act of sewing. You make it into an art form ( which it is) you show the design of your work, and it's such a beautiful thing to see! Off topic and strange question... is that your everyday sketch/ design book? Do you always keep a sample of the fabrics you used? Did you go to art school at all? I took art classes for 4 + years. I was going to school to get my degree in Psychology and to have at least one totally relaxing class ( it was not always relaxing lol) I took art every semester. I have always drawn, painted, sewn, built thing's, etcetera and it makes me feel... well a lot of good feelings 😊 Sorry, enough talk of myself! Back to you. Some of the techniques you use , and all the different pens, markers and pencils, and the way you keep your supplies aka tools of your trade, it reminds me of art class. I especially liked that you did this episode. ▪︎I don't know the exact, or even correct words used for RU-vid... I think it is brave and very, very useful, inspiring and insightful to admit you didn't like the way one if your pieces turned out! It's especially great that you explained what you weren't happy with and why. Then showing what you were going to do to fix/ change the dress! Wonderful, and for so many people who think everyone on RU-vid and other platforms are perfect, or better than them. I found this very good. The design you ended up designing is so beautiful! I knew the material was going to be from your mother's dress as soon as I saw the color you were using! It's so sumptuous. I also live that you use your materials so resourceful, responsible and with respect for our planet. I hope it reminds others to use what you have . Wow, this has turned into a book, sorry about that. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and process with us all! It really is such a joy. I always learn something, and I'm always uplifted and filled with the desire to work on some form of art. I wish you happiness & love, Audri
Hey Audri! Thank you so much for your lovely comment and support. I always make my videos trying to show how beautiful the art of sewing is, so I’m happy you appreciate that ♥️ the book I’m drawing my sketches in is only for designs and mostly for RU-vid actually:) and I do keep swatches of the fabrics, I have one board where I pin them all, it’s sometimes in the background of the videos :) I actually came to sewing via other “art forms” when I was younger I sketched a lot and was really into hyper realistic drawings. Then I started with photography and for that I started to make outfits - and now we are here. So I can relate to you always doing creative things and especially feeling a lot doing it! This video made a lot of fun because fixing the things I wasn’t happy with brings so much more joy and it’s often not possible because of the timing and deadlines, so starting with RU-vid helped with that because I can work on my own projects more! I’m really happy you like my videos and that they inspire you, that really means a lot to me!
